Golovkin to Have Five or Six Fights Before Granting Jacobs Rematch!

Post by Enlightened-One »

"Golovkin has next three bouts tentatively scheduled, possible opponents named by trainer"

Asked... whether a rematch with Jacobs was in the forefront of 'GGG' and his promoter at K2, Tom Loeffler's mind, Sanchez stated there were at least three opponents ahead of the American in the pecking order.

"Gennady is fighting in September against somebody, and if it’s Canelo then it will be Canelo, then after that, it will be his 20th defense. Will he stay and do the 21st defense to break Bernard Hopkins’ record? I don’t know if he stays at 160 lbs or if he moves up to 168 lbs before the end of the year or at the beginning of next year."

On a potential move up to 168 pounds, Sanchez added: "The guy who has been talking about fighting him is Gilberto Ramirez, so there are possibilities there. The next three or four fights are really scheduled already, or tentatively scheduled. A Jacobs fight would be five or six fights down the road."

With Saunders, Canelo and Ramirez mentioned as Golovkin's most likely foes by Sanchez, this news comes as a blow to those who say Jacobs deserved a rematch on the back of his efforts last month.

People seem to enjoy criticising fighters like Andre Ward and Floyd Mayweather Jr. to hideously obscene levels, but unlike Canelo & GGG, at least they allow their opponents an immediate shot at redemption whenever their victories are perceived as highly-contentious!

Double-standards? Thoughts?

With the belts he holds, there is little he can do but defend them as per the organisation decrees. It would only take one winning fight against the no 1 contender for Jacobs to get a shot. GGG has 3 minimum defence fights a year, so I can understand delays

Sanchez is mentioning Saunders, Canelo and Ramirez - none of these guys are mandatories to any of his titles.

There's no mention of Golovkin facing the likes of Tureano Johnson (IBF's mandatory) or the winner of Heiland-Charlo (WBC)? There's currently no WBA mandatory challenger.

How often has Golovkin had to defend his WBA Super World middleweight title? How many defences of his WBC title has he made?

Am I missing something? I can’t see a relationship between Sanchez’s comments and your theory... and your understanding of the frequency of mandatory defences that Golovkin has to perform is incorrect.

Saunders, Charlo & Canelo

Can't see any other path

Let's not forget that Ward had to give Kovalev a rematch or retire.

Saunders and Canelo certainly take precedence over Jacobs. A decision on whether to stay at 160, move up or retire after that belongs to Golovkin only. "Those who say Jacobs deserved a rematch" won't be taken into consideration.

Ward asked for the Kovalev fight and he agreed to the rematch clause, so he knew the consequences of his actions. He even fulfilled this contractual obligation, despite many people boldly and prematurely proclaiming him to be a "duck".

Golovkin doesn't seem interested in either Saunders or Jacobs at this point in time. Who knows? Maybe GGG is going to prove you wrong by opting for money rather than legacy?

It’s abundantly clear that Abel Sanchez won't allow Gennady to fight Danny Jacobs again. It also seems fairly obvious that the Canelo mega-payday takes precedence over GGG’s long-term title unification ambitions.

So let's not forget what I said earlier... about people seeming to enjoy criticising fighters like Andre Ward and Floyd Mayweather Jr. to hideously obscene levels, but unlike Canelo & GGG, at least they allow their opponents an immediate shot at redemption whenever their victories are perceived as highly-contentious!

He's 35 now. In 5 or 6 fights, he'll be way past his best.

It's a little disappointing that a Jacobs rematch isn't being considered immediately although the alternative fighters named are great tough matchups.

Who says Jacobs wants a rematch ?

One year ago, he was claiming he needs at least 3 more fights to be ready for Gennady.

Now he's oh so brave....

Are you really suggesting that Jacobs is scared of Golovkin?

Jacobs and his manager both want the rematch.

..I'm not a fan of rematches except in case of robberies and home town decisions..the last one was a close but a legit win...considering the time factor, I think GGG should look forward and focus on a bigger target...

I think this is fair. Given his age is often used against him...eg Canelo delaying the fight, why not use it as a positive, to keep propelling his career.

NO, Golovkin is waiting for the Canelo-Chavez Jr winner. They are hoping Jr will win. IMO Golovkin should take that Saunders fight and grab that WBO belt asap. Oscar and Canelo will lowball GGG till he get's really old.

They better thank the gods Golovkin injured something during the contest and now has to sit out until september.

Gennady can make 3 times his Jacobs purse vs Eubank Jr.

He can make 5-10 times vs Canelo.

According to you he should forfeit it just because it was a close win?

Golovkin isn't injured and Jacobs deserves a rematch this year not in six fights time.

..that could be true from Jacobs perspective, why would that be critically important to GGG considering he's been running out of time?

..I believe you have to look at each and every boxer separately..double standards? of course, it's sport, it's subjective and fans taking sides oftentimes not even noticing it..

Your posts in ALL Golovkin related threads criticize EVERYTHING he and his team do. F*cking hipocrite.

I'm shocked GGG doesn't want to rematch Jacobs. Absolutely shocked.

I'd bet on Jacobs to win a rematch and everybody but the GGG Whackjob contingent here who contributed to those idiot threads on the Classic Forum where he was beating Monzon and Hagler would at least be on the fence about it. Jacobs looked to me like he figured out how to fight GGG and finished strong.

GGG will look for easier opponents. Smart career move.

What he figured out is how to survive against Gennady.

Are you sure about that? I can easily prove otherwise.

I don't recall an enlightened thread about canelo rematching Lara. Loving ward & Stevenson and hating ggg. That's all he has.

GGG is injured. That is the only reason Jacobs "figured" him out. Besides, if Jacobs figured Golovkin out, why was he still outlanded in almost every round?

...I guess figuring someone out is one thing, using it to your advantage is a different pair of shoes, isn't it..
