Biggest fighters you have seen per division
147: Tommy Hearns was massive as a welter, i don't pick more than 5 fighters over him at that weight.
135: Shane was an amateur light welterweight, as a lightweight he was huge and strong.
160: Hopkins was a big MW at 6'1" and a large frame. Chose to cut massive weight and defend the middleweight title for a decade against patsies rather than move up to where he belonged. Think of who he should have been fighting.
147: Brook is huge.
160: Gerald McClellan was ridiculous, man cut some serious weight.
154: Canelo is a huge super welterweight.
168: Has anyone here seen Shawn Estrada?

Re: Biggest fighters you have seen per division
Guillermo Jones is my answer for all the divisions he has competed in except for heavyweight. Seriously, the guy looked massive at cruiserweight, but he actually started his career at 147lb - ridiculous!

Those were my picks without reading the thread.Ruthless-RKO wrote:147: Tommy Hearns was massive as a welter, i don't pick more than 5 fighters over him at that weight.

I would add:
Mike Jones at 147
Chavez Jr at 160
DLH at 130
Fernando Vargas at 154
Paul Williams at 147
Corrales at 130

Yup That would be my call and a bloody good fighter too.jezzamundo wrote:Guillermo Jones is my answer for all the divisions he has competed in except for heavyweight. Seriously, the guy looked massive at cruiserweight, but he actually started his career at 147lb - ridiculous!
Re: Biggest fighters you have seen per division
Thomas Oosthuizen - super middleweight
Paul Williams - welterweight
Ali Funeka - lightweight
Paul Williams - welterweight
Ali Funeka - lightweight
Re: Biggest fighters you have seen per division
Biggest Middleweight I recall seeing was Kingsley Ikeke...he wasn't that great, but he was a 6'4 Middleweight so he definitely stood out.
Nikolay Valuev is the biggest fighter I've ever seen period. I mean I've seen heavier guys, but they were just fat f*cks like Butterbean. Valuev was as well built as he reasonably could've been and he was just enormous.

Re: Biggest fighters you have seen per division
Good calls there. Funeka was huge for a Lightweight. Williams is tied with Hearns for the biggest Welters I've seen. I think they're basically the same size.Lackeos wrote:Thomas Oosthuizen - super middleweight

Re: Biggest fighters you have seen per division
Paul Williams is another obvious one. He was always listed as 6'1", but was likely more like 6'3" (he looked at least as tall as 6'3" Chris Arreola when they were pictured together) - perhaps downgraded so as not to scare of future opponents?
Hearns at 147lb is particularly impressive when you consider that was with same-day weigh-ins. These days that version of Hearns would probably campaign at 140lb, while the stronger 154lb version would fight at welterweight.
Not the tallest for his division, but Danny Green was a very big super middleweight. I met him in person a few years ago (shortly after his brief retirement in 2008) and he was the same height as me at 6'1", but he made me feel like a very little, skinny guy (I'm around 170lb now, more like 155lb then). For starters, his hands were massive, but so were his wrists, neck, forearms etc, I couldn't believe that this guy used to fight as low as 168lb.

Like Brook now? Imagine he had to do same day weigh injezzamundo wrote: Hearns at 147lb is particularly impressive when you consider that was with same-day weigh-ins. These days that version of Hearns would probably campaign at 140lb, while the stronger 154lb version would fight at welterweight.
You cant blame him, you think they should have had a super HW division? maybe above 260lbs?Ossyrules wrote:Heavy - valuev
I can only think of Baby Miller in that list today.

Don't blame him? He's just the biggest heavy I can think ofRuthless-RKO wrote:Like Brook now? A lot of Japanese fighters have that ..wiry frame, at the moment guys like Nakatani at 135, Maruta at 118, Koki Tyson at 160,SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Ishida at 154.
To answer the question, I'll go with Maruta at 118...he was only a tad smaller than GGG at some WBC event last year

I was astounded how big he was against Kirkland. I remember getting clowned on here for saying he wouldn't be fat at Heavyweight.Boxing Prospect wrote:A lot of Japanese fighters have that ..wiry frame, at the moment guys like Nakatani at 135, Maruta at 118, Koki Tyson at 160,SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Ishida at 154.

Yes, he's taller than 6'1. At the weigh in and face off he looked exactly the same height as Ishida listed at 6'2"jezzamundo wrote:Paul Williams is another obvious one. GGG isn't even a big middle current let alone all time, he can allegedly do 154. He's not small but can hardly say he's massive eitherJip wrote:Ggg at midd

Re: Biggest fighters you have seen per division
This is a very strange pick - he's pretty much a perfectly average-sized middleweight. Clearly smaller than previous champs like Hopkins, Taylor and Pavlik, not to mention his most recent opponent.Jip wrote:Ggg at midd

Ggg is bigger than pavlik or taylor. Look gggs back, shoulders, neck. He looks big and strong at middleweight. He aint taller. But looks bigger to me.jezzamundo wrote:This is a very strange pick - he's pretty much a perfectly average-sized middleweight. Re: Biggest fighters you have seen per division
GGG is not even close to the size of Pavlik or Taylor, bizarre statement that. He's smallish for a modern middleweight although similar in terms of height/weight to Sergio Martinez. Hell he wasn't noticeably bigger (possibly lighter on fight night) than 147 champ Brook and would almost certainly be lighter on fight night than Canelo. JCC JR was a big middleweight and in fact big at every weight he's fought at below super middle.Jip wrote:Ggg is bigger than pavlik or taylor. Look gggs back, shoulders, neck.
