Lets not forget about Craig Docherty

with all the recent press confrences announcing the upcoming fights in Scotland with Harrison, Calzaghe and Arthur and the discussion about the lack of merits of their (potential) prospective opponents, lets not forget there is a genuine title fight, for a bona fide title taking place soon.

Craig Docherty is fighting for the super feather European title at the Kelvin Hall on the 15th October against the champ Boris Sinitsin of Russia. This should shape up to be a cracking fight and is a genuine real test for Craig against a quality opponent.

Word is that if he wins against Sinitisin he'll get a tilt against the reigning IBO (alright not the best of belts) champ Cassius Bayoli in Glasgow, who despite winning a world title four years ago against Steve Robinson is still reckoned to be a quality top 5 fighter.

Good to see there are still some fighters out there who will take genuine fights

Baloyi is pretty good, i saw him about 5 years ago beating up Brian Carr at the Kelvin Hall, i'll be going to see Docherty as well, he's on the up and i think he'll outpoint Sinitsin, as for Baloyi, we'll wait & see

I really hope that if Docherty comes through these fights unscathed and looks good doing so, then a rematch with Gomez could become a real possibility. Either that or a good old East vs West coast match with Arthur in early '05.

In my opinion Docherty has genuine chance of winning both these fights as he has improved a great deal since first fight with Gomez.

What is the point of Docherty targetting the IBO title if he wins the European! That's a bit like going for the English title after winning the British.

Yeah, I agree with this - why is the sport so obsessed with titles. Not having a go a Docherty though who has gone on from strength to strength after the Gomez setback. For me, undoubtedly the most improved fighter of 2004.

Baloyi is decent, top 5 is a bit too high, but possibly scrapes to the top ten (although I would say he lies more in the 10-15 bracket). However, Sinistin and Baloyi are still the sternest tests of the new Docherty, I do favour the Scotsman to come through both, but not without a struggle.
