Parker went to distance
Joseph Parker just went to distance against Razvan Cojanu (who got KOed in 2 rounds by Donovan Dennis).
To me this is a big surprise, I really expected Parker to KO this guy in no time.

Re: Parker went to distance
Parker is distinctly mediocre.
Re: Parker went to distance
Parker has been looking horrible as of late. Should have a loss to Ruiz Jr. too.
Re: Parker went to distance
I wont judge Parker on this fight. Cojanu was awkward. Every fighter has a bad night now and then. Parker wanted to fight but Cojanu wouldnt let him.

Yeah I had Ruiz just shading that one. Some rounds were difficult to score though. Takam was pretty tight as well.Mexi-Box wrote:Parker has been looking horrible as of late. Should have a loss to Ruiz Jr. too.

Re: Parker went to distance
Not sure why anyone ever thought Parker was elite.
Re: Parker went to distance
Vs Wlad, AJ, T.Fury that belt is gone. Parket has talent but lacks power
Re: Parker went to distance
I don't mind Parker but there was a guy on another site that really rated him.
To me his defence is really bad which doesn't bode well vs Joshua, wilder or Wlad.
His power isn't top level, similar to say dillian Whyte whose hurting domestic level but top level it's not having impact.
Speed is decent for big heavyweights.
Overall, in days of less belts, this guy never wins a belt but is probably enough to have the odd shot at one.
Hughie fury may have had a shot at beating him tbh

I just think this was potential banana skin and he was probably focused not to lose at all costs.nmhz wrote:Vs Wlad, AJ, T.Fury that belt is gone. Parket has talent but lacks power
However, I do agree. He struggled with Takam, Ruiz and this lumbering Romanian. But, he's probably done himself a favour, as most HWs will want to fight him now. Apart from Wilder...
If he'd blown him away, I'm sure some UK fighters would've thought twice as it appears that's where he's headed.
I think Parker and Ortiz's stock has dropped from their recent performances.
Re: Parker went to distance
Havent seen the fight, but losing rounds to Cojanu and failing to get a stoppage arent good signs
His stock has dropped a lot for me in his last two

Re: Parker went to distance
Parker got this win and I think he won v Ruiz and Takam. He has not been overly impressive but he keeps winning. His stock has not risen or declined for me but it is time to step it up, as it has been for years with Wilder.
Parker v Wilder would be worthwhile. It would be the best win for either and setup a huge fight with AJ or . . .

Re: Parker went to distance
What do you mean step it up? Guy fought Takam, Ruiz Jr., and Dimitrenko. His resume craps all over Wilder's. He's been looking like crap lately, though. It's a given when you step up to good fighters like Takam and Ruiz Jr., but looking like crap against the stiffs is really bad.Tanzio wrote:Parker got this win and I think he won v Ruiz and Takam. Wilder made Molina and Duhaupus look like terminators.

You didn't miss much. A dire sparring session...crusader wrote:Havent seen the fight, but losing rounds to Cojanu and failing to get a stoppage arent good signs

I feel sorry for his management company. Every active fighter from light heavy, cruiser, and heavyweight will be tying up the phone lines to get a chance at the easiest belt since Prince Charles..

Re: Parker went to distance
Wasn't parker supposedly injured going into the fight?
Re: Parker went to distance
Prince Charles made an excellent purse because of his favourable risk/reward ratio, and I'm not sure that Parker's team would be upset if JP is that highly in demand now. Showing vulnerability can be lucrative....KiwiRider wrote:I feel sorry for his management company. If he's not going to cash out straight away, his team should continue matching him with the worst of the WBO ranked fighters (like Fujimoto), because otherwise he may well lose before a $$$$ fight. I thought he lost to Ruiz, and going the distance with Cojanu is not the stuff of an elite HW....it's almost like he's going backwards.
Re: Parker went to distance
I thought he lost to Ruiez and got a draw at best against Takem.
Local news reported a lot of empty seats at a 3,000 venue. So his next fight has to be outside New Zealand or Duco will go broke.
He needs to change trainer at the least. He has a good chin, it sits right out there for anyone to hit.

Re: Parker went to distance
The Heavyweight division should be chomping at the bit to get a shot at Parker. He's the most beatable Champ out there at the moment. If Parker's people are smart they're gonna get him in a unification fight with Wilder or AJ sooner rather than later because he ain't gonna hold this title long if he fights any meaningful opposition.

Re: Parker went to distance
He's not a huge puncher like Joshua or Wilder, but he hits plenty hard enough. More of a problem is his poor defense and lack of urgency in close rounds/fights.nmhz wrote:Vs Wlad, AJ, T.Fury that belt is gone. Parket has talent but lacks power
Re: Parker went to distance
I think with his future opponents being AJ. Wilder T.Fury
going the distance with a 6'6" guy makes perfect sense.
Foreman fought a lot of short guys heading into a possible shot at Mike Tyson. So its perfectly ok for Parker to go the distance against this guy. He Won Every round and underestimating him could prove dangerous.

While Wilder's opposition recently is not exemplary, his opponents are on par with Parker's. It would be entertaining to see Wilder's last four or five opponents fight Parker's. Ruiz and Takam are not head and / or shoulders above Wilder's competition.
Let's get Stiverne, Duhaupus, Szpilka, and Titeola in the ring with Ruiz, Takam, Dimitrenko, etc., and see how it comes out. And let's get Parker in the ring with Wilder.
Talk is cheap.

Re: Parker went to distance
I suspect he will end up fighting Bellew from what Hearn has suggested. That's a good fight for him. U.K. Exposure, a pay day and a winnable fight
Can't see them putting him on in NZ again, I believe their sales were very poor for Hughie Fury before he bailed and they had to pay a kings ransom to land that
