Does Fonfara have a chance?

Post by KiwiRider »

Joe Smith Jr got him out very quickly so not much can be learned from that fight.
Fonfara has been beaten by His Chickeness before, has he got any better since that fight?
I just want Stevenson's reign to end.

Stevenson has probably slowed down since the first time they fought, but so has Fonfara, and even though Fonfara knocked him down in their first fight Stevenson still managed to beat him fairly comfortably. So no, unfortunately I'm afraid the reign of Chickenson will continue.

Pretty much what I was thinking.
While I don't think Fonfara has lost any power, I do think his speed has declined.
Kentucky Fried Stevenson has also lost some speed, but has learned more ringcraft in the last few years. He is one of the boxers I watch purely to see if someone can beat him. Unfortunately his list of opponents never really inspires hope for that eventuality.
I guess I had the slim hope that Fonfara might have learned from their previous fight and career-wise, this is probably his last big payday before becoming a gate keeper.
Maybe that is incentive enough to go all out in training?

Yes, he definitely has a chance, about 30%.

He'll be well-prepared and highly motivated for the fight and his experience of fighting Stevenson may help.

I would figure that Fonfara would perform about 2 points better than the first fight. Basically a 4-8 UD defeat. Stevenson's gotten older since the last encounter, Fonfara has gotten a lot more experience.

Fonfara does have a chance if he makes it to the later rounds. In the first fight he got knocked down a few times earlier, but came back at the end of the fight and made a decent fight of it in the last few. Stevenson is powerful and dangerous early, but does gas late. 39 yrs old, you start slowing down unless you juice up.

I will add that maybe Joe Smith is better than we give him credit for? He KO'd Bernard Hopkins, when many big scary punchers were not able to do that, even though he was an old man.

Yes I also give Fonfara a better chance if the fight goes to the championship rounds.
This opportunity is too good for him to take lightly. I thought his career would take a swan dive after Joe Smith Jr, but no, the ABC belt farce delivered this to him.
I would have liked his last fight to go on past the first few rounds so we could see how good Smith Jr really has become, but that will have to wait.

Chickenson has beaten Fonfara before... And he's only gotten worse since... As you know, Chickenson only fights 3rd raters he knows he can beat.

This is the best fight Stevenson could get after his last fight being July 2016. Sad.

Fonfara was surging late against Adonis the first time. Adonis was fading badly. I think they think Fonfara's chin is now eroded. They could be right. Adonis should win and probably will but he's getting old.

Adonis with another easy fight. Fonfara is all done. He still has a name that will look on his record again so that's the only reason for this fight. Fonfara can't be ranked in the top 10 on any legitimate LH ranking.

Add in that Stevenson already beat Fonfara comfortably and Fonfara has been struggling lately, I figure it plays out about the same way it did the first time.

Not more than 10-15%, and that's what bookies think. Personally, I expect Stevenson to catch him with his left this time.

What was learned from Smith vs Fonfara, is that's how you get a fight with Chickenson... You look horrible, seem washed up, and get knocked out quickly.

Thanks for that.
One small triumph is making weight comfortably I guess.

Fonfara has the tools to box his way to a points win over the pimp but he doesn't have the discipline. Stevenson KO mid to latel

You stop that right now!
Think positive, it might not happen :shame:
Joe Jr might have made Fonfara's brain tougher or something.
Chickenson is going down :box:
