Katie Taylor v Conor McGregor

Post by Stuarty »

Would it be totally ridiculous to suggest that she would give McGregor problems in a boxing bout never mind Mayweather?

Just a bit of fun as I'm bored hearing of this McGregor Mayweather pish!

She's a handy bit of a bird though. Apparently she's gave a few guys a doing in sparring.

I think someone like Bradley Skeete would box Conor's head off. And we're supposed to buy in to this Mayweather crap. I wonder who'll pick it up on TV here and if they'll try and put it on Box Office? It's not something I'd pay for unless there was a top notch undercard.

Was thinking that but with Mayweather involved it'll more than likely go to the highest bidder I'd have thought.

Wouldn't she be at a big weight disadvantage?

I think she could still do it.

This reminds me of people saying Ronda Rousey would beat up the top men in her weight class in the UFC.

If Katie Taylor and Conor McGregor properly boxed, as in Conor not pulling his punches, he would knock her out. He's been doing boxing training since he was really young, has fantastic timing, great power and is very fast. Not to mention that he is a lot bigger/heavier than her.

For woman vs man fights to be fair - the woman must outweigh the man by a minimum of 40%.
Realistically that's a 12 stone woman vs a Super-Bantam. Laila Ali vs Scott Quigg anyone ?! :box:
Macgregor would masticate Katie Taylor even if she outskilled him.

Science bit.
Aggregated data of absolute strength indicates that females have, on average, 40-60% the upper body strength of males, and 70-75% the lower body strength.[79] The difference in strength relative to body mass is less pronounced in trained individuals. In Olympic weightlifting, male records vary from 5.5× body mass in the lowest weight category to 4.2× in the highest weight category, while female records vary from 4.4× to 3.8×, a weight adjusted difference of only 10-20%, and an absolute difference of about 30% (i.e. 472 kg vs 333 kg for unlimited weight classes)(see Olympic weightlifting records). A study, carried about by analyzing annual world rankings from 1980–1996, found that males' running times were, on average, 11% faster than females'.[80]

Males typically have larger tracheae and branching bronchi, with about 30 percent greater lung volume per body mass. On average, males have larger hearts, 10 percent higher red blood cell count, higher hemoglobin, hence greater oxygen-carrying capacity. They also have higher circulating clotting factors (vitamin K, prothrombin and platelets). These differences lead to faster healing of wounds and higher peripheral pain tolerance.[83]

If it was MMA I'd fear for Taylor's safety.

However

If it was boxing... I'd still fear for her safety she's get destroyed

I'm not convinced on the 40% bit. First it says it is less pronounced, you'd need to check by how much that actually means, not just assume it's 40%. BUt you're also assuming a linear relationship between strength and weight

Here's Lucia Rijker one of, if not the best female boxer of all time and excellent kick boxer, against a presumably mid-level thai- boxer.
