Crawford-Diaz draw 961,000 viewers on HBO
The Terrence Crawford-Felix Diaz fight on HBO Boxing drew 961,000 viewers on Saturday night per ShowBuzz Daily.
A peak audience of 1,036,000 on HBO
Crawford dominated the fight against Diaz. Per ShowBuzz Daily, it drew a 0.37 rating in the A18-49 demo.
The other fight on the telecast between Raymundo Beltran and Jonathan Maicelo drew 687,000 viewers on HBO.
The telecast was opposite a Showtime show so there may have been a split in viewership. Crawford is one of HBO’s prized boxers but will he get a shot at the upper echelon? The one sure way is a big fight with Manny Pacquiao. The ratings reflect that his viewership is around 1 million viewers but if he’s to return to PPV, he’ll need a Pacquiao fight to do so.
---
Those ratings eclipsed viewership of the Vasyl Lomachenko-Jason Sosa fight – the previous high for 2017. The Ukrainian southpaw’s spectacularly thorough defeat of Sosa lured a peak audience of 886,000 and an average viewership of 832,000 on April 8 from MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland.

As long as Arum thinks Pacquiao would beat Crawford, this fight won't get made. Once Arum thinks Crawford could beat Pacquiao, it will 100% get made. Arum knows that there are few fights left in the tank for Pacquiao, and he will be angling to crown a new, younger cash cow. I believe Arum also paid the judges to award the first Pacquiao - Bradley fight for Bradley, in order to make Bradley the next cash cow, but the fight was such a domination by Pacquiao that it backfired.
So anyways, 100% chance of Crawford - Pacquiao late 2018.

Crawford would beat Pac easily. The reason it won't get made is because the money isn't there.

Funny to compare US TV numbers and Japanese TV numbers Inoue Vs Rodriguez peaked at almost 5.25 million in Kanto alone...and Murata Vs N'Jikam averaged over 11.4 million between Kanto and Kansai.
Inoue's numbers were described as "high given the entire show lasted 4 rounds"

That's the funny thing with HBO obsessed loons like bad intentions & enlightened one. This is less than 3% of their subscribers. No wonder they're cutting their budget.Boxing Prospect wrote:Funny to compare US TV numbers and Japanese TV numbers Inoue Vs Rodriguez peaked at almost 5.25 million in Kanto alone...and Murata Vs N'Jikam averaged over 11.4 million between Kanto and Kansai.

Same as Mexico, average 15-20 million viewers. But I assume just like Mexico, Japanese will show these fights on free tv? Correct me if i'm wrong.Boxing Prospect wrote:Funny to compare US TV numbers and Japanese TV numbers Inoue Vs Rodriguez peaked at almost 5.25 million in Kanto alone...and Murata Vs N'Jikam averaged over 11.4 million between Kanto and Kansai.

Fair point...what was boxing getting on free US TV? Spence vs Bundu got 8 million right?Ruthless-RKO wrote:Same as Mexico, average 15-20 million viewers. Usually about a million or so. That just had an Olympic lead in. Boxing is less popular than figure skating or friends reruns here.Boxing Prospect wrote:Fair point...what was boxing getting on free US TV? Thurman Garcia got well over 3M. I believe Wilders fight on NBC did pretty well also.

There really isn't free tv here, but yes it was on a 'free' network that is part of all of our not free TV packages. Porter/Thurman drew ok too, there are exceptions, but fights like Guerrero/Figueroa won't do much of anything and that's most of them.Ruthless-RKO wrote:Thurman/Garcia was on free TV I believe.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Thurman/Garcia did, wilder isn't a draw.jockpunk wrote:Thurman Garcia got well over 3M. Diaz should watch films of smoking Joe Frazier. He needs to Smoke when he comes in so he doesn’t get hit so much.
