Carl Frampton vs TBA
Carl Frampton has tweeted this morning telling the fans to keep July the 29th free, presser within the week and tickets on sale straight after for his homecoming bout.
Any speculation on the opponent? The man himself has confirmed it's not Lee Selby.

Re: Carl Frampton vs TBA
If its not Selby my guess is Jezreel Corrales at SFW.

Why would he move up a division?Stuarty30 wrote:If its not Selby my guess is Jezreel Corrales at SFW.
He's tiny.
Weight-jumping garbage.

Who's tiny? Selby? That's a joke right? Referring to Frampton I guess.Horse wrote:Why would he move up a division?Stuarty30 wrote:If its not Selby my guess is Jezreel Corrales at SFW.

Because Corrales has a title at SFW. I think if he does go up it'll be a one off. As you say, he's not big enough to be a force at SFW. He's not even a big feather.Horse wrote:Why would he move up a division?Stuarty30 wrote:If its not Selby my guess is Jezreel Corrales at SFW.

He's always said he wanted to be NIs first three weight champion so if the opportunity is there then I wouldn't be surprised in him going for it. It's a chance to make a bit of history so why not?
It's not really fair to other contenders at SFW but that's the way the sport works today unfortunately. From Carl and his teams point of view it's a better option than fighting a fringe guy at feather.
Re: Carl Frampton vs TBA
I just looked up Corralez and he's already got a fight pencilled in for next month so I'm talking shite
I honestly can't think who else it can be then

Re: Carl Frampton vs TBA
My only other guess is Abner Mares. Russell and Valdez haven't long fought so that rules them out. Can't see it being LSC. I honestly thought it would be Selby.

He'll risk his future at featherweight by messing around weight-jumping.
He could be stuck in a division he is ineffective at and it could essentially be the end of his career.
He shouldn't mess about. He should stick to featherweight.
Re: Carl Frampton vs TBA
I thought Mares was rematching Santa Cruz.fightfan95 wrote:I think it could be Mares.
Re: Carl Frampton vs TBA
I actually agree with you but I can see why it would be appealing to him and his team. id rather he stayed at feather and fought the big names. I honestly thought it would be Selby but that's looking unlikely.Horse wrote:What goes up can't always come down.Stuarty30 wrote:Because Corrales has a title at SFW. Hopefully it's Mares at feather.

Hopefully they look at Brook and imagine something similar possibly happening to Frampton, if he chooses to mess around with his weight.Stuarty30 wrote:I actually agree with you but I can see why it would be appealing to him and his team. id rather he stayed at feather and fought the big names. Mares would be very good, perhaps better than the Selby fight.
Re: Carl Frampton vs TBA
Yeah Mares would be a better fight. More action. Selby would be a bit of a chess match. I'd still like to see the Selby fight though.Horse wrote:Hopefully they look at Brook and imagine something similar possibly happening to Frampton, if he chooses to mess around with his weight.Stuarty30 wrote:I actually agree with you but I can see why it would be appealing to him and his team. id rather he stayed at feather and fought the big names. Is it safe to assume we'll get Selby v Quigg next if he's not fighting Frampton?

Re: Carl Frampton vs TBA
Also heard that Oscar Valdez has said he would come to Belfast to defend his WBO title.
Re: Carl Frampton vs TBA
Saying one thing is very different from actually doing it. I don't think Valdez will come over.fightfan95 wrote:Also heard that Oscar Valdez has said he would come to Belfast to defend his WBO title.
Re: Carl Frampton vs TBA
He is. That's the fight that the WBA agreed to sanction for LSC instead of the Frampton trilogy.Horse wrote:I thought Mares was rematching Santa Cruz.
Re: Carl Frampton vs TBA
For me, I'd like to see Nonito Donaire come over for the fight. Clearly Frampton isn't going to get a pop at a World Championship, so he'll need a major name to make up for the lack of World title recognition.
Donaire lost his Super Bantamweight title last November and he's not getting any younger (34) - I do wonder if a big pay out fight would tempt him to come over.

Could Mares make more against Frampton than Santa Cruz?Crease wrote:He is. That's the fight that the WBA agreed to sanction for LSC instead of the Frampton trilogy.
Re: Carl Frampton vs TBA
I'm really not sure Mr Horse, but I do know that their is big bucks behind Frampton. But - I think it more likely that Mares would rather fight for a World Championship rather than risk his high ranking against a fellow contender.Horse wrote:Could Mares make more against Frampton than Santa Cruz?

Re: Carl Frampton vs TBA
He's tune up fight nobody of substance. Homecoming fights aren't competive fights its tune ups.
Re: Carl Frampton vs TBA
Rigo at feather maybe?
Re: Carl Frampton vs TBA
He only fought a month or so back and it was a bit of a war so he's out the picture I reckon.Crease wrote:Saying one thing is very different from actually doing it. Why's it clear that Frampton won't get a world title shot?Crease wrote:For me, I'd like to see Nonito Donaire come over for the fight. Clearly Frampton isn't going to get a pop at a World Championship, so he'll need a major name to make up for the lack of World title recognition.

Donaire would be very good, but a title shot would make more sense.

Carl has already said that he doesn't want to fight any more "nobodies" - he wants the big fights for the big bucks and his legacy.world ranked wrote:He's tune up fight nobody of substance. Homecoming fights aren't competive fights its tune ups.

All the title holders at feather are tied up aren't they?Horse wrote:Why's it clear that Frampton won't get a world title shot?Crease wrote:For me, I'd like to see Nonito Donaire come over for the fight. Russell has just fought.
Apparently LSC and Mares are fighting one another.
Selby has a mandatory to negotiate.
Who else is there? I can't think off the top of my head.
