okay I admit it,I have a bit of delexia.
It actually happened in 1946,which was 71 years ago.
BTW Have you already seen this documentery that they refer too ?
Is it any good ?

Jack Johnson was driving a 1939 Lincoln-Zepher.
Does the documentery say what became of the wreckage after it was brought to the J.O Green Motor Company ?

That particular section of old Highway U.S. 1 is now part of South Main Street in downtown Franklinton N.C I believe.
The sharp curve"Cadillac Curve" is near the cemetery there.

on June 3 of 1946,Jack Johnson was in NYC at the offices of RING magazine talking to Nate Fleisher and gave one of his last if not last interview.
Nate Fleisher had promised Jack Johnson ringside tickets to the Louis vrs Conn rematch.
Johnson was driving on his way back to NYC(he had an apartment on 148th St.) from a short tour of Texas when it happened June.9.1946.

I don't know either,but I wish someone would do an in-depth book on what Heavyweight champions did after they lost the title.
So many if not all focus soley on what lead up to it,but the losing of it and the subsequent decline is always interesting too.

I wouldn't have been surprised if most of his family and relatives moved up to Chicago by 1946.
He had bought an entire family plot in the cemetery there before he died.

I think I had read somewhere where Jack Johnson's driver was inter-viewed and gave his account in one of the biography's of his
published around 1970.

from what I remember reading it was on part of Main street before it or as it entered the town.
