Official Fight Purses: Ward $6.5 mil, Kovalev $0
This is the sheet from the commission with the purses and officials for Ward vs. Kovalev.
http://www.espn.com/espn/now?nowId=1-19648334
Kovalev's purse will be listed as zero. His money is strictly a percentage of tickets and PPV revenue - which explains why Roc Nation hasn't been doing much to promote the fight.

Roc Nation is losing money on Ward, but they are rich enough that they don't care.Mexi-Box wrote:BrokeNation
But that $0 purse for Kovalev is an injustice. When I first saw that, I thought it was some kind of bad joke.
But Dan Rafael is usually a reliable source.

Blame HBO. At least Roc Nation is paying it's fighter.

LOL, rocnation doesn't take part in promotions because they don't give a fornicate. This actually explains how much Kovalev wants Ward. Main events is a real company.Freedom2013 wrote:This is the sheet from the commission with the purses and officials for Ward vs. Kovalev.

Looks a bit sketchy.
Re: Official Fight Purses: Ward $6.5 mil, Kovalev $0
I would imagine the rematch clause had the finances set in writing. I would think the 6.5mil is something Roc Nation is paying Ward on the side based on their own contractual agreement with him.

If the PPV doesn't sell, it will not just hurt Kovalev, it will also hurt Ward in the long run.
He isn't a humble man like Kovalev, he's selfish and greedy and demands huge paydays that are too high for HBO or Showtime to afford. So his fights NEED to be on PPV.
But Ward doesn't understand with his ugly "arm-clamp, clinch and push" tactics, he's painful to watch. People don't want to pay to see prima donnas get gifts from corrupt judges, or to see boxers use illegal tactics and get away with it because of shady refs.
I doubt whether this PPV will sell very well, partly because people were disappointed in the robbery that was Kovalev-Ward I, and partly because recent PPVs have not been interesting (Canelo-Chavez, Mayweather-Pacquiao).

You’re actually lambasting Andre Ward for demanding that he’s paid his worth? You do know that managers, promoters and TV networks have exploited fighters for decades… so why complain about the role reversal?Freedom2013 wrote:If the PPV doesn't sell, it will not just hurt Kovalev, it will also hurt Ward in the long run.

Do you care more about the sports’ managers, promoters and TV networks than the actual fighters themselves that take great risks with their health?

Ward's worth is not far from zero, as he draws around zero. Only promoters willing to lose money would take such a piece of work.Enlightened-One wrote:You’re actually lambasting Andre Ward for demanding that he’s paid his worth? I wonder what percentage of ppv kovalev gets 200,000 x $70 = 14,000,000 , so 10% of that is 1.4 million as an example

Kinda like how Ruiz got paid on percentage..victor-romeo wrote:I wonder what percentage of ppv kovalev gets 200,000 x $70 = 14,000,000 , so 10% of that is 1.4 million as an example
Thing is though, based on what you have written.. would it be 10% of 14,000,000 or 7,000,000? Cuz half goes to HBO straight away..
So 10% of 7,000,000 is $700k.. a much less figure

My little math model was just to make an example with out knowing the percentage kovalev gets and all the particulars it does narrow down somewhat in my mind what I think Kovalev might get paidRuthless-RKO wrote:Kinda like how Ruiz got paid on percentage..victor-romeo wrote:I wonder what percentage of ppv kovalev gets 200,000 x $70 = 14,000,000 , so 10% of that is 1.4 million as an example

HBO most certainly doesn't get half of the money. the cable/satellite companies do. HBO will get the smallest piece of the pie, some production money. PPV is on the promoters dime, HBO has no risk. I'm sure Ward has no upside on the PPV, if Sergey has no direct compensation then he probably gets a nice cut of every buy.Ruthless-RKO wrote:Kinda like how Ruiz got paid on percentage..victor-romeo wrote:I wonder what percentage of ppv kovalev gets 200,000 x $70 = 14,000,000 , so 10% of that is 1.4 million as an example

Don't forget that networks take a half of PPV money.
Isn't Kovalev getting 75% of a total revenue of his side? Beside PPV sales, that would include ticket sales, merchandise revenue, something else? Also, do the sides get a cut of broadcasting rights sold to other countries?

I read an article on Fight Hype about alleged racism against Ward. He got the decision, right? I guess the judges weren't racist. If people don't care about this fight, it has nothing to do with racism. Ward's fighting style has something to do with it. The two best light heavyweights are going to fight again and the interest is poor. It was poor even before Mayweather vs. McGregor was announced. Now it really sucks. If I want to watch it, I can go to a Twin Peaks restaurant and watch it for free. I'm not paying for it.

Guess is Kovalev had to get on his knees to get coWard to do the rematch so he took the very short end of the stick. Now coWard has to deal with Kovalev's rage which is extremely venomous right now. coWard's team probably has this rigged again with the three US judges so Kovalev knows what he's up against. Kovalev will try to kill coWard tonight. black privilege coWard has to know what's coming.

I can see a lot more purses like this in the future. Kovalevs, not wards.
