Josh Kelly

Post by kbackup408 »

Evening lads, just caught up with all the boxing was particularly impressed with Kelly, I know the opposition is piss poor atm but that combo at the end felt like something from Tekken.

What do you lads make of him and his future ?

He seems talented and athletic although very wide open and will need to tighten up as he steps up in levels.

Though what a cocky and arrogant sod in the ring .
In the interview after he totally changed my opinion and seemed like a nice kid .
If his reaction skills are up to it at top level he will go far , cos with that hands down style he's going to be very open and one punch away from trouble .

Bad habits die hard. Talented but needs to cut out the messing about IMO.

A lot of fighters get away with carrying their hands low, especially Adam Booth fighters, he does have decent head movement though, it might not be a major issue or it could be something he'll change as he moves up in levels

The combination to finish Whitfield off was superb :salut:

Will be interesting to see if he tries that carry on when he doesn't fight a binman. Looked good though

I'm excited about his future, it's something for Sunderland to shout about. But if Matchroom backed our other talents we'd give a lot more to British boxing. Kelly wouldn't be known if Warren signed him.

Needs to sharpen his defence up.

His hands down style looks impressive at this level. His head movement is outstanding but he needs to move his feet a bit more when dodging the shots.

He's slipping everything but the higher the level he will have to take a step back to get out of range aswell.

If he kept up his existing style, you would see someone with power stay in range, throw a few feints and time his head movements.

Very talented. I agree with the comments about his defence, but I'm sure Adam will work on this with Josh when the opponents get better. At this time Josh can just let his hands go and use footwork/head work to avoid anything dangerous.

Give him someone like DeMarcus Corley - That'll give him some rounds!

I am sold. Cant help myself, I am a sucker for Adam Booth style. And this might be the best examples of it still.

I'm the same - I think he's best in Britain Booth and he's got some stable of fighters at present.

The hype Adam booth and his fighters get I think is unjustified. I thought Burnett looked ok the other week but not the second coming sky would have you believe. Kelly looks sharp but it's very early days. Sky always refer to Booth as some sort of master tactician based on him getting Groves to counterpunch Degale.

Yes, he gives his fighters a wide stance, a bit of twitchy head movement but is he overrated based on the success of Haye? I don't know, he's as good a trainer as we have over here but still Lee looked poor in a few performances under him (his power rescued him) and I feel his fighters defence leaves something to be desired, and I include Haye and Groves in that. Will be interesting to see how Kelly progresses up the ranks.

Kelly looks like a better, and certainly better looking version, of Ryan Rhodes.

Hopefully he has a good chin.....
