JUDGES AND REFEREES CREDENTIALS

Post by BIGDOUG58 »

With the recent controversy over Pacqiao vs Horn,
what qualifications have these guys got to be approved to officiate in a WORLD TITLE BOUT.
1. Have they ever boxed before.?
2. How long have they been in the sport. ?
3. Who appoints them?
Its about time they were universally qualified and with Teddy Atlas being a welcomed criticism voice towards these clowns it would be a great legacy to start the ATLAS REFEREE AND JUDGES BODY.
A 3 months course on judging and refereeing under Teddy and other notable boxing experts.
No Judge or referee could participate in a World Title unless "Qualified"
I know it would take a couple of years to complete but what a great idea....any thoughts

The most qualified judges score just as many or more bad decisions than the lesser known ones. There were a string of fights where Lederman would praise appointed renown judges in the industry, then turn around with a "I don't know what (insert judge) was watching. Terrible score." after the decision is read. Happens almost every time.

Watching from a tv monitor with crowd blocking headphones would help, but ultimately not much can be done about it - too many variables and the right people keep getting the benefit. Accept it or move on(which is what I've done). Visit this forum more than I watch boxing these days.

Atlas won't improve a thing. His scores in general are off the charts, out of the arena and into the gutter.

Teddy needs 3 months just to finish a non boxing off topic anecdote.
They would come out of his course knowing only tips and tricks for removing bugs from windshields. Or how to tackle basement flooding.
Actually, your right. After 3 monts with Teddy they would be more qualified than the average judge.

The judges for Pacquiao vs Horn weren't really inexperienced, just more...less well known I guess

They all had significant judging experience but very few world title fights and most of their world title fights were women's world title bouts.

Basically they were all grossly incompetent.

Thought the judges , especially the two 115 113 cards were spot on despite a few odd rounds.
Dont be sucked in by Teddy Atlas and his ranting. If you havent done so watch the fight with another commentator. Steve Bunce who i would think has as much knowledge about the sport as does Teddy thought the decision was fair and just. Teddy is loud and opinionated and has been nothing but negative about the sport for years. he would do nothing what so ever for the standard of judging ! The judges had Manny two rounds after 6. he was lucky to be that close.

I definitely had the fight a lot closer than Atlas announced it to be. I think that it's becoming ever so difficult for these live boxing announcers to amuse and entertain while keeping an honest score simultaneously. On top of juggling these things during the telecast, Atlas complained that his companion displays were useless due to sun glare so he was strictly giving his opinion based on live action while doing a telecast. So he didn't even have the right tools at his disposal and when your as limited as Teddy Atlas is, he could use all of the tools he can get.

But HBO's crew did the same thing in the Ward/Kov rematch. They almost ruined that fight with their one sided biased view of the action inside the ring. Timothy Bradley was the only one saying that Horn and Manny was tight going into the last round and i was in full agreement with him. There's a reason why the networks supply a TV judge to give us a sample of the scoring of the fight. That's who should be giving the scores and the announcers should just focus on entertaining us without an agenda. The 117 score was a joke but the 115-113 was right on. Either way, 115-113 is a good score for either guy. That's how close it was. Punch stats were garbage. Not accurate.
