Has anything been said about the death of Jack Obermayer on 25 June? Are there any Obermayer fans here? I only just found out. I still remember his fight reports in Boxing Illustrated in the 90s. Found them hugely enjoyable and would always flick straight through to that section first to read them. Often like genius little comic tales, full of humour and witty observations. I miss that quality of writing in boxing. I think Jack holds the record for covering more boxing cards than any other writer. Sad to learn that he's died.

Oh I thought this had happened last month! I can't believe how out the loop I am. I'll have a look around for that BN obit.Flump wrote:Yeah this was last year Jim. Was reported at the time, I remember a piece in the BN. Good writer.

The two that really gutted me were Harry Mullan and Jim Brady. Brady used to crack me up, I remember when him and Steve Holdsworth commentated on the 96 Olympics for Eurosport. Not politically correct but bloody hilarious.Tuan_Jim wrote:Oh I thought this had happened last month! I can't believe how out the loop I am. I remember a hilarious Brady report when he reported on that one "fighter looked like a film star and fought like one. He was knocked out in the second round". Loved Brady's reports. His Boxing Confidential book is a real eye opener on the underbelly of boxing.

Wasn't it jack who made a point of visiting as many different diners as possible over the US ? Always noting a new one he'd tried when visiting a new town to attend a boxing show.
for one of the American magazines, maybe the ring.
