4 rounders
Do you think it's time to rid professional boxing of the 4 round contest ? I've seen fighters that don't train properly just turn up get through the 4 rounds, then go home with the money and they boxed shit, I've always said if you up the contests to a minimum of 6 rounds then it will up the standard of professional boxing,
What's your thoughts ?

In a word No.
Shit contests currently over 4 would just be shit over 6 instead.
4 x 3 is a big jump for most amateurs.

Re: 4 rounders
I think a minimum for pro's should be 6 twos ,,, If they can't do 6x2 they should'nt be pro's , , it was'nt to long ago ameteurs done 3x3 , jumping to 4x3 , should be easy enough , thats why you will get guys not training ,
Re: 4 rounders
The 4 rounders are really only useful for the guys with no or little amateur experience, maybe theres an argument for a minimum number of amateur bouts under your belt before you can get a pro licence

Re: 4 rounders
6 x 2s is the same as 4 x 3. And a 2 min round in the pros is a joke.
Most amateurs struggle with the jump, not least because opponents are sitting down on their shots, wearing smaller gloves and slowing you down by hitting you in the ribs.
Very rarely do you see body work in the ams.

It could be argued that 4x3 is a joke then . its the same time ,, but 6x2 for novice pro's does allow them to guage what there going to be up against , I can see the merit in it , but personaly when i was training lads i would'nt have a bar of 2 min rnds ,, there was no money in it and when your pro its about the money ,, I do believe though if you struggle with 4x3 , your not ready for the pro's ,CharlesListon wrote:6 x 2s is the same as 4 x 3. I used to say to the guys turning , in a couple of yeasrs of being pro , you will look back and think , WHY THE FOOK did i think 3x3 was hard in the ameteurs , and too a man , they all later on agreed. , Its a mind set .

Re: 4 rounders
2 mins.....with a minute rest means you get more rest in a 6 x 2 than with 4 x 3. That's why no one likes 6 x 2.
You aren't more up against it with 6 x 2. It's easier.

Re: 4 rounders
4 rounders are cheaper than 6 rounders! They did 4 x2's for a bit, are they still doing them?

Re: 4 rounders
6 x 3 is about £1500 for the away lad
4 x 3 is about 1200
6 x 2 is about 1200
No one likes 2 min rounds and I've not seen 4 x 2 for a while and the last one I saw no one got paid.

Re: 4 rounders
I always found 3 minute rounds easier, the 2 minutes were always a sprint, the pace was always slower over the 3 mins.

Most small hall shows pay around £1100 to 1200 for a 4 rounder
1500 to 1700 for a 6.....but it really all depends upon the promoter, what weight is agrees etc. ...but those are averages....for the away fighter.
Home fighter may be on a wage....i know one promoter pays 500 for a 4 rounder....plus a deal on tickets.
A lot will do it on tickets alone. As long as you cover your opponents fee you get everything else you sold. So say you sell 2k worth of tickets you'll get 800 for a 4 rounder....obviously the more you sell the better you'll do.
Some will take a cut of the tickets over and above the opponent fee.
Some want paying just to have you on their show.
It's not unusual for a pro with poor management to box for fornicate all sadly.
Frank W pays well....Eddie isn't too bad....probably because their tv money helps and they really cannot afford to have opponents pull out on a scheduled and contracted tv show.

How is Frank when it comes to paying for undercard fights, out of interest?CharlesListon wrote:SAPFO wrote:What the kind of pay in the local town hall or nightclub?

Re: 4 rounders
In my experience FW always paid on the night for undercard fights as did all the other promoters. FW was always the best payer, but then he had the to deal. In those days Matchroom didn't always have tv, or if they did it was BBC highlights or an obscure satellite channel.

Re: 4 rounders
I've never understood it in the first place, do 3, or 5, but not 4.
There have been many top contenders who received a draw because their opponent had a lucky hit or two and managed to make it to the fourth round.
