Broner Weighs in at 138¾ Pounds; Garcia Comes in at 139½

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Adrien Broner’s time in Colorado Springs was well spent.

For the first time in three fights, Broner focused on training throughout camp and made weight with little difficulty Friday. The former four-division champion weighed in at 138¾ pounds Friday afternoon at the Brooklyn Marriott for his 12-round, 140-pound fight against Mikey Garcia on Saturday night at Barclays Center (Showtime).

Garcia (36-0, 30 KOs), who moved up from 135 pounds for this fight, weighed in at a career-high 139½ pounds. The most Garcia, 29, had weighed in for a fight before Friday was 138 pounds for a fifth-round stoppage of Elio Rojas last July 30 at Barclays Center.

Broner (33-2, 24 KOs, 1 NC) would’ve been fined $500,000 if he failed to make weight for this fight. As promised, he had no difficulty doing so after spending nearly two months training in Colorado Springs, Colorado, far away from the distractions he so often encounters in his hometown of Cincinnati.

Both look in good shape at the weigh in.
Garcia looked calm and collected, Broner looked a bit agitated although in good spirits not sure about the beard though he needs to trim that down it looks messy.
Looking forward the fight :box:

Can't say I've paid too much attention to Broners past weigh ins/interviews but he is highly strung, normally he just likes to try and be Floyd but this is different, like he's cracking....on the flip side he might be just dying to get in there and fight but.....being calm is far superior to an over anxious amped bundle of nerves if you ask me. See if he comes out strong and ragging but if he misses he might get frustrated and do a Oliver McCall Lewis 2 on us....maybe thats a bit of an exaggeration. Still....I'm really looking forward to this. Go Mikey!! :bag:

Spoken about Miller, what a fight will that be, Miller alone is over 20 pounds bigger as these two dwarfs combined!

Just a hunch, but a lot of people will be surprised when this fight is over. Broner has much more at stake in this fight, so we'll see his best. Garcia can always say the weight jump was too much, etc. Could be FOTY. Before you laugh, watch the fight.

I've agreed with your comments regarding that this is no cake walk for Garcia and a risky fight but fight of the year...maybe will be a great technical display but Garcias a counter puncher and broner is "relatively" low out put so I don't see a war. Saying that Garcia is a counter puncher with a forward jab so could be more action than I'm thinking.

It's a fight on the radar.

For Garcia it's the highest profile bout he's had since his layoff.
For Broner it's an opportunity to right some wrongs and reestablish himself.

It's a good match up at this time.

Apparently Broner is a "Dorg" or a "dawg" depending on if you listen to Ellerbe or Spence Jr.

Broner is live in this fight. Tough guy and I can't see him being stopped. Close fight and controversial decision on the cards

If Broner is the same old Broner and refused to change anything in camp for this fight then Garcia wins decisively. I just hope that it's not one of those fights that was all about making the weight like Julio CCJR.

According to Broner's trainer, it was Garcia that had to run on the treadmill to make weight before the weigh in.

I think that this may turnout to be a war. Both have dangerous power. It seems that Broner understands the importance of this fight for the future of his career. I think that Mikey wants to make a statement here. The ingredients lead me to think that we may see multiple KDs with both fighters hitting the deck.

Broner looks well prepped to me, with a good edge. Mikey looks a tad soft to the body even at weigh in. I don't ever remember Broner being good to the body though.

For the conspiracy theorists in the room; there is definitely bad blood between elements of Team Mikey and Team Mayweather. Specifically between Robert Garcia and Ellerbe.

Could this feud affect the cards if it gets to a decision? :maybe:

I haven't picked Broner to win in a while, but I think he takes this...
