Joshua: Mike Tyson Would Have Battered Me, He Was a Beast!

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

During a fans’ Q&A yesterday, the 27-year-old had an emphatic answer for those wondering who might emerge victorious in a hypothetical fight between the two stars at their peak.

“Mike Tyson would have battered me!” Joshua said, laughing.

“There was no way I could have taken on that guy. I would have taken that pay cheque.”

“You know what I did against Klitschko in that 6th round when I took that dive? I’m joking.”

“I would have taken a dive against Tyson. He was a beast.”

“I give all credit and respect to Tyson. Even though Tyson is going on like 50 now, I still remember Tyson as the young, young 21-year-old.”

“He was that good and made such an impact in the sport of boxing.”

He remembers the young 21 year old Mike Tyson?

Wasn't he born in like 1990?

He may be referring to videos he might have seen from when Tyson was 21

AJ is very shrewd.
Whether he means this or not, the humble 'man of the people' vibe he gives off really endears him to the paying customer.
If he does mean it...fair enough.
If he doesn't, he is, as always, being very savvy with media

Lennox Lewis beat Tyson, but I assume Joshua is referring to when Tyson was at his best.

Man of the people or not I can't say I'm impressed with this kinda humble attitude.

I mean I ain't saying AJ should be going around saying "I could kick every Champ that came before me's ass" or nothing that'd be ridiculous.

But...let's just put it this way.

Do you remember when Lennox Lewis was saying "I wouldn't have had a chance against Dempsey, Joe Louis or Ali"

Or when Larry Holmes was saying "Marciano would've really whipped my ass"

Yeah...me neither.

That being said. I doubt Joshua means this, it probably is part of a "Man of the people" routine, but I still don't see why it would be necessary to say out loud that you don't think you could beat somebody.

I love what Joshua said about Tyson. Most of today's fighters wouldn't have the humility to make a concession like that and I think it says a lot about this kid. Though i don't like the "dive" stuff and taking the paycheck but the message should be well received and appreciated by fans. I really like this kid's style.
