Definitely not.

The article states that many members of the media have seen thousands of fights and are passionate and knowledgable about boxing and are thus better at judging fights than the judges. But I'd bet that many members of the media are also folks who don't really know much or care about boxing and are at the fight because they were assigned to be.

No... leave judging up to well-trained unbiased judges. Do everything possible to ensure that the judges are indeed well-trained and unbiased. If a decision is disputed, investigate. "Mr Roldan, why did you score the Horn-Pacquiao bout 117-111 in favor of Horn?"

Fans know when a decision is wrong.

No, leave it to the judges. The media is part of the problem with this country as it is, they don't need to be mucking up a boxing match.

That would mean Harold 'the unofficial judge' Letterman. No, please.
