I think the era of ppv is slowly coming to an end. The future seems that boxing will be formatted more towards phones and Netflix type services. I think Canelo-GGG will not meet expectations ppv number wise, so that'll be only a confirmation that people simply will not pay big bucks anymore for fights. However, they may pay $100 for a yearly service subscription.

What evidence have you for this? Mcgregor v mayweather just smashed box office records.HomicideHenry wrote:I think the era of ppv is slowly coming to an end. If anything the model of paying for single events has grown since people now routinely buy movies via tv.
People like to sit and watch big events with friends and family in front of a big screen. Its not much fun watching it on your phone or on a laptop
Nobody is buying this because few know who hughie is, hes not exciting to watch, and nobody in the UK knows who parker is. Simples.

The canelo fight will shift bundles. Canelo is hugely popular.HomicideHenry wrote:I think the era of ppv is slowly coming to an end. Rather than this being the end of PPV it is actually the beginning and The likes of YouTube and Netflix will be big players in the future. This farce of a fight however could be the end of Hennessy and the Furys and they cannot possibly come close to recouping their costs. More people will watch repeats of BBC Parliament on the 23rd than will pay for this fight.
Such a shame as this could have been a profile building fight for both men but the reality is that no broadcaster had any interest in this whatsoever.

Well because the Furys are doing it this way, then it has to be the future. To Rufus. fornicate the facts.

Needed the big lad on this show to make it pay. I don't care what anyone says, his popularity has grown enormously since his absence. If he got back in shape, screamed he was back and gunning for Josh, they'd have done ok. And had a broadcaster. Sadly, I think he's done.
Re: HUGHIE FURY VS JOSEPH PARKER ON YOUTUBE PPV ? PLUS LESS THAN 1000 TICKETS SOJTTD
I forecast online television many years ago and the demise of set-up boxes. With shows via internet-enabled TV's and sat boxes would end up simply as an 'app'.
What I didn't envisage was the piracy side of things being so huge when this changeover occur.
When broadcasters sent out their events via their own hardware (sat box or cable) pirates found it much harder to crack - with people unable to afford it or without a satellite subscription having to search around for a file link to download the next day.
But now with the advent of video streaming, even video gamers can use their streaming software to grab and redistribute the online video via many social media platforms with one click, in full HD.
Personally, I think the only way around it is if they put the price very cheap like £1 , and play adverts or overlay banners on it. With maybe a slightly higher price for HD version without adverts.
There are punters out there whom will never ever pay. That's just life. Even if it was 50p.
But there are people whom want to support their sport and want to enjoy the best experience without fear of it being pulled halfway through - and it's about finding the sweetspot price to get them onboard. Also make it one-click to buy via paypal, apple pay etc.
I suppose there is one upside, Promoters themselves no longer have to suck a dick at the television broadcaster's office, they can put on their own events online without television. Although marketing it becomes the new problem for them..

Re: HUGHIE FURY VS JOSEPH PARKER ON YOUTUBE PPV ? PLUS LESS THAN 1000 TICKETS SOJTTD
Seems a fairly popular fight if we go by this forum! This is the third thread on British and Irish alone! Its crazy thinking this is gonna be a ppv that sells in the uk, like everyone has said Hughie's style isn't fan friendly and he's unheard of. That been said, if on the 23rd I'm bored on a sat night after a couple of beers I'd probably part with a tenner to watch it.
Its a World title Heavyweight fight featuring a brit. Hughies a good boxer, parker like's to swing a bit. Might even gel. I think Parker will knock him out, but the Furys often prove people wrong.
Personally I haven't got a clue how ppv works on youtube though, and I can imagine the quality will be utterly shit. I guess I need a youtube log in which I think I have but wont have used for years.

Not a bona fide world title clash but still an interesting fight and it beggars belief that only 1000 tickets have been sold.
Why does every boxing show in Mcr have to be at the arena. It's too big, too corporate and not really conducive to a good atmosphere unless its packed out for a mega fight and I'm sure this has an impact on sales.
Gmex used to be a great venue why not put a show on there ?

Parker is coming off an absolute stinker of a fight in New Zealand and Hughie is coming in off the back of several stinkers himself so you'd have to be a mug to pay for this one.
Re: HUGHIE FURY VS JOSEPH PARKER ON YOUTUBE PPV ? PLUS LESS THAN 1000 TICKETS SOJTTD
No broadcaster had any interest in this at the price offered to be more specific.Mark Lloyd wrote:Rather than this being the end of PPV it is actually the beginning and The likes of YouTube and Netflix will be big players in the future. Sky are showing Gonzalez this weekend. He's an elite fighter but only known by proper hardcore fans. A UK heavyweight in a title fight will be known by more people, as poor as Hughies profile is.
Re: HUGHIE FURY VS JOSEPH PARKER ON YOUTUBE PPV ? PLUS LESS THAN 1000 TICKETS SOJTTD
The problem broadcasters have is whether the fight will actually go ahead,no broadcaster could trust it not to get pulled.
I definitely agree with GOmez post earlier about setting the prices cheap.Top Rank do their undercards on Youtube and it really works well imo.

There's no real evidence of this, in terms of his popularity. His comeback fights which went to ticket sales sold very poorly. His comeback announcements have been met with middling interest at best.mickey1975 wrote:Needed the big lad on this show to make it pay. Not saying Tyson isn't a bigger name than Hughie it wouldn't boost sales to an extent, but he's been utterly eclipsed by Joshua.

Well I'm going on my social media. People who hated him love him now. He's a lovable oaf. Before people just thought he was cocky. The opposite has happened to BJS, people just think he's a bully.

No, its a fight which the winner can call themselves a WBO champion, the "W" in that acronym does indeed stand for "World" but it should not be confused with something which suggests the winner is a champion of the world.Bigdogsnose wrote: Its a World title Heavyweight fight featuring a brit..

I know loads of people who hated him before and still hate him for being something along the lines of a fat pikey cokehead.mickey1975 wrote:Well I'm going on my social media. And I'm not sure Saunders ever really had any serious fan base. It's an issue they all have to put up with unfortunately; the general public at large just don't like travellers.

Must just be the circles I mix in, AJ gets terrible abuse on my FB for being a drug dealer, abandoning his kid, getting a gifted gold medal and nearly getting stopped my a man, 41, who Tyson had already beaten 18 months earlier.
Re: HUGHIE FURY VS JOSEPH PARKER ON YOUTUBE PPV ? PLUS LESS THAN 1000 TICKETS SOJTTD
I agree on all points.mickey1975 wrote:Needed the big lad on this show to make it pay. I don't care what anyone says, his popularity has grown enormously since his absence. Also, I agree with the others in that Hughie can't be taking a purse out of this - Hughie has been completely self-funded (by his dad) since day 1 - they are banking on a load of loss leaders in the hope of cashing in when they win a belt.
If Tyson was still boxing the Fury's would be making an absolute fortune. However, even if Hughie wins, he doesn't have the personality to carry it off - especially not with AJ being viewed as the "real" champion.

Tony Sibson and Henry Wharton didn't have to put up with anything. They personally sold thousands every fight!dirk2686 wrote:I know loads of people who hated him before and still hate him for being something along the lines of a fat pikey cokehead.mickey1975 wrote:Well I'm going on my social media.
