Of course, the same goes for Canelo.

I have both GGG and Canelo as strong, good skilled fighters. No hype-job, glass chined or weak fighters. Top notch-quality material.

Will it? Wasn't Trinidad the betting favourite for that fight with Hopkins? Has canelo done more than oscar or Trinidad to support that claim?
One thing that is a leveller is size. Hopkins being a big middleweight had a lot of advantages, golovkin vs Canelo is much fairer physically

Oh i'm sure that if GGG gets the win, he'll have a difficult time getting credit for it. It's been just the way his career has gone with people going out of their way to discredit his accomplishments. Oh but if Canelo wins...some guy will begin crafting a statue out of silly putty on the Vegas strip Sunday morning.

I dunno. I think Trinidad and DLH might be better than Alvarez.

Oscar had campaigned at MW for one fight and IMO that shouldve been a close but clear loss to Sturm. I certainly think it's arguable that GGG beating Canelo is better than Hopkins over DLH. Tito was very good, but I dont think he was the same force all the way up at 160.
Incidentally, I recently reviewed Hop's record and his 160 run wasnt nearly as strong as I remembered it; a lot of average names on there and really no one who was proven to be excellent at the weight. IMO his best wins, though not against the biggest names, arguably came in other divisions.
I would take him in his prime over GGG and Canelo though....

Tito was a great fighter but at 147. Hopkins pretty much beat a blown up ww in Tito.crusader wrote:Oscar had campaigned at MW for one fight and IMO that shouldve been a close but clear loss to Sturm. Hopkins competed in 21 middleweight world title fights between 1994 & 2004 and had defeated the following world champions:crusader wrote:I recently reviewed Hop's record and his 160 run wasnt nearly as strong as I remembered it; a lot of average names on there and really no one who was proven to be excellent at the weight. • Oscar De La Hoya (catch-weight, with Hopkins weighing 156lbs)
• William Joppy
• Carl Daniels
• Felix Trinidad
• Keith Holmes
• Simon Brown
• Glen Johnson
• John David Jackson (catch-weight, with Hopkins weighing 156½lbs)
Bernard, a relative novice, had also fought and lost the great Roy Jones Jr. in 1993, which was his very first world title fight and was also a pretty competitive affair.
In terms of his overall career, Bernard Hopkins has competed in 37 major world title fights (including the Ring & Lineal titles), emerging victorious in 26 of them and won titles in two weight classes (25 at middleweight and 12 at light heavyweight).
Hopkins also managed to defeat the following world champions above the prescribed middleweight limit: Ronald Wright (170lbs catch-weight), Antonio Tarver, Jean Pascal, Tavoris Cloud, Beibut Shumenov and eventually Roy Jones Jr.
When you consider the above facts about Hopkins career and then compare them to Golovkin’s resume, do you believe that GGG’s middleweight run is anywhere near as strong as The Executioners'’?
Re: Golovkin beating Canelo is a bigger accomplishment than Hopkins beating Trinidad or ODLH
Tito was still good at 160, but Im not so sure that he was much better than Canelo. Hop had strong wins no doubt, but some of the names look much better on paper. Simon Brown was once a very good fighter, but he was well past it when he faced Hop, and had already suffered that scary KO against Pettaway. John David Jackson lost in his previous fight to a 9-6 opponent, Oscar IMO deserved the Sturm loss right before, etc. Guys like Daniels and Joppy had just been average trinket holders.apollo creed wrote:Tito was a great fighter but at 147. No doubt he had some very good wins though, and his career certainly rates above GGG's and Canelo's. I just thought there had been more in it at MW...

Max Kellerman (ESPN.com): "Hopkins gives one of greatest fights ever" (2nd October, 2009 - immediately after the Hopkins-Trinidad bout)
What a fight. What a fighter. Bernard Hopkins validated his greatness with a masterpiece, a performance for the ages. And for all of the revisionists out there who can't wait to retroactively rewrite the circumstances surrounding this fight, Felix Trinidad is a great fighter, he is a real middleweight, he fought as well as he ever has, he is as good as advertised... I had Tito ranked as high as second in my pound-for-pound list. In the days leading up to the fight, arguments abounded in boxing circles over how Trinidad would have fared against Ray Leonard and Marvin Hagler. We will never know the answer to those questions, but we do know for sure that Bernard Hopkins threw him a beating.
Is anybody currently discussing how Canelo “would have fared against Ray Leonard and Marvin Hagler”?

His victory was seen as such a sure thing that Don King had already made the trophy for the Middleweight Tournament with Felix Trinidad's name on itSaadOffTheDeck wrote:Ossyrules wrote:Will it?
