Just what boxing needs... ANOTHER SANCTIONING BODY!
Just what boxing needs... another sanctioning body to hand out championships! The International Boxing Association (IBA) announced it has re-launched under the leadership of its new president, JC Courreges.
The introductory e-mail reads: "In the spirit and memory of past president and founder, Dean Chance, the IBA will continue to sanction the very best in regional and world championship boxing. The IBA has a men's division and a women's division including all weight classifications."

Probably about as much needed as a third buttock !
It is curious though how some sanctioning bodies manage to get established, whereas others have achieved no traction whatsoever. The IBF and WBO are the Johnny-come-latelys who can be considered successful in joining the WBC and WBA at the top table.
I recall the WAA based in Oklahoma threatened once to become the third before the IBF was formed IIRC, but that was basically a one man band (O'Grady) as I recall and soon disappeared. There are the IBC and IBO and one or two others that nobody takes any notice of at all.
Do we as fans have any role in the success or failure of these organizations? If we ignore them do they go away?

The IBA title was actually held by a few ATG boxers

Guys like Jones Jr, Toney and many others have ensured even the worst/least known ABCs have had an ATG hold one of their beltsRuthless-RKO wrote:The IBA title was actually held by a few ATG boxers

There are many minor sanctioning bodies. Some are more known than others. The World Boxing Federation is one of the top organizations other than the major organizations. It is extremely difficult for another sanctioning body to be considered a major one. The IBO has not been able to and not for lack of trying.

..does the boxing need another ash tray on a motor bike?

I could use a third buttock. It would be something I could scratch with my third hand.candyslim wrote:Probably about as much needed as a third buttock !

If the IBA doesn't get anymore traction than the WBF, WBU, and former IBA, then there isn't anything to worry about.

Apart from the WBC, WBA, IBF, and the sodding WBOLackeos wrote:If the IBA doesn't get anymore traction than the WBF, WBU, and former IBA, then there isn't anything to worry about.

And the IBO, which is gaining traction.

The IBA was never really taken all that seriously before, don't see any reason why that would change now.
