Luke Watkins vs Robin Dupre

Post by handsofstone »

For the vacant Commonwealth Cruiserweight title on the Selby/Flores card this Saturday on Channel 5, don't know a lot about either guy, both unbeaten, Watkins is 12-0(7KOs) and Dupre is 11-0 with only 1KO so not a puncher, seeing as that's pretty much all I know about either man i'll go with the puncher Watkins to win inside the distance, he's coming off a KO win over Tims

Hoping Watkins can get in on this Chsmberlain and Okolie act. I reckon he beats both.

Watkins stops Dupre in 6 in what was a fun little fight, Dupre well out of shape but started off well, got his punches off quicker, had success on the inside with uppercuts and Watkins struggled to get his punches off, he came into it slightly in the 3rd then put Dupre down in the 4th with a lovely right hand, Dupre recovered well and battled gamely and continued to have success but there wasn't the same snap on his punches as there was in Watkins who started nailing Dupre clean sending him back peddling and opening him up, he didn't put Dupre down again but he was rocking his head back with solid shots and it was the right call by the ref to step in

He's a big strong unit but looked a bit stiff, albeit he did warm up and by his account didn't have much time to prepare before the fight. His fundamentals seemed ok.

I only caught a bit if it - I was surprised that it was a title fight and more surprised that both were unbeaten, especially the podgy fella.

that Dupre was a strange thing.

interesting fight, totally different styles.

Watkins wins but he isn't a world beater

Dupre should be at light heavy and Watkins would get beaten by Askin, Chamberlain and Iqbal to name three.

Have to agree in terms of physicality but I don't think he will have power at 175lbs. That was for a Commonwealth title, imagine him against Yarde for the Southern Area? I can't see that ending well for him.
