Well said Kiwi although I can't really get into MMA. Strange really because back in the day I often used to theorize and speculate about who would win between exponents of different martial arts, and I was fascinated to learn about different and more obscure styles of (always unarmed) combat from countries not normally considered when you think of martial arts (Brasil, Indonesia, France etc). You could say that MMA was created for people like me. I've seen some cracking MMA fights and then some real bore-fests where they hold each other by the shoulders and take turns to kick each other in the shins
I'm reminded of a spoof about the (presumably fictitious) Welsh martial art of 'Llap Goch' founded on the principle of striking first. An accomplished exponent of Llap Goch will be able to disable his opponent before his opponent has been able to land a blow, or in fact before the idea of doing so has even occurred to him. A master of Llap Goch will be able to render his opponent unconscious before the opponent is even aware of the Llap Goch master's very existence
Yeah back on point - I liked what Dillian Whyte had to say about the great fighters of the past all having losses on their records because they were not afraid to fight each other, and losing a fight was not the end of the world. If only we could get this philosophy to catch on.
