Errol Spence vs. who next?

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Before the Brook fight, he hadn't fought for nearly a year. He said he always wanted to be active.. But nothing since May when he won the title. Someone fighting in May, would have fought by now. At his age, he should be fighting 3 times a year. He hasn't got a mandatory at the moment..

3. Carlos Ocampo
4. Konstantin Ponomarev
5. Luis Collazo
6. Bradley Skeete
7. Sam Egginton
8. Sadam Ali
9. Qudratillo Abduqaxorov
10. Rashidi Ellis
11. Ray Robinson
12. Zhankhozh Turarov
13. Carlos Molina
14. Keita Obara
15. Cesar Barrionuevo

Not the best names, but some decent first defence.. Unless he can get a unification.

I know he hasn't got a fixed promoter. Hearn has been interested in him since the Brook fight.

If you were his advisor (Al Haymon), what would you advise him?

He'd love to be active, nobody in the pbc is. Looks like Peterson in December/Jan. We'll see.

Apparently Peterson is no longer the WBA 'regular' champion.

I think he should follow Jacobs and sign with a promoter, keeping Haymon as his advisor.

He dropped that presumably to face Spence. Jacobs was never tied to a promoter through al, most of them are. Not sure about Errol.

I know that, now that he's with Matchroom, he has kept Haymon on his side too.. I'm saying Spence should do that, get a promoter, because that's not Haymons job. I think Spence was on a fight by fight basis with TGB.. they negotiated on his behalf vs. Brook.

There have been conflicting reports on haymons involvement with Jacobs. I understood what you were saying, it's just not as easy to do as it is to say. Al is a shady mother..........., you can never know what kind of deal is in place.

Warm up easy one that's what I think.
They're revving up towards a bumper 2018 at 147 and giving everyone a rest until then.
May see the odd big name have a fight here and there if we are lucky but I suspect something bigger is in the offing for next year.
Top boy is Keith Thurman and hardly ever spoken about in boxing circles what's that all about.

He's quite inactive, that's why I think.. But his last 2 fights have been against top 5 welterweights

I would guess Lamont Peterson. Decent fight if they do fight. I thought Peterson definitely beat Danny Garcia. LP is a solid boxer.

I'm sure I read that it was supposed to be Ponomarev a couple of months ago?

For all his faults Hearn is right with a lot of what he says about the American market, unless a fighter actually has a fight announced you have absolutely no clue what's going on with them. We all know Spence as we're boxing fans but it's easy for a casual observer to forget about a guy who they see fight in May and then don't hear a thing about for 6 months. No wonder there are no stars breaking through anymore.

Ponomarev was supposed to fight Spence last year.. the final eliminator. He got injured. Bundu took his place.

Let him retire Pacquiao is what I'd suggest if I was his promoter.

I couldn't vote for anyone on that list.
None seemed like they would be a step forward for Spence. Shame he has not been active since that stunning fight way back in May
There has been all sorts of talk about who is next, right from the Brook fight up to now.
And still nothing except this so far unsigned bout with Peterson.
Shame isn't it?
He won himself some fans in the UK and Eddie certainly wants a piece of him.

Peterson would be a fairly action fight, both are tough guys, though Spence is clearly a higher level operator.

Spence could be big in UK though if he did a deal with Hearn. England, UK is 2 things, mega loyal and vocal to there own, but also appreciate quality. There’s been some foreigners come over here that have made a real impact on the fans. The atmosphere when golovkin came over was truly electric. Linares was appreciated as a class act. Crawford wowed us. Boxers get there profile promoted well over here right now. Probably as good as I can remember it

Eddie knows marketable when he sees it. Spence is highly marketable, young, good looking, exciting to watch and a really good family friendly media attitude. I hope Spence gets in with Matchroom, I really want to see more of him in the ring. Waiting since May is an anticlimax.

Didn't Keith get injured or something ?
Regardless his reputation is in very high standing, he showed a lot of control against Danny Garcia and upped the tempo at just the right times to win that decision clearly.

Yeh, he is quite injury prone. It might affect him more in his later career. He definately has a solid reputation. But because of the injuries and unfortunately having to fight once a year over the last 2 years.. i don't think he gets mentioned enough.. WBC need to sort ther rankings. TBH i don't want to see Thurman vs Porter again, or even Swift Garcia.

I don't think we'll see Thurman v Porter/Garcia 2 there's no need at this point.
