Safer opponent than Lemieux... Ali is dangerous early with the hook and straight punch arsenal but rapidly gets sloppy and vulnerable

When was the last time you expressed a positive comment to this forum about any fighter not named Golovkin? That’s a serious question… one that even you may struggle to answer!

If this really is the Puerto Rican’s farewell bout, then he’s earned the right to face whomever he damn wants. He deserves to retire on a high note!

If you don’t like it, then don’t watch! It’s as simple as that!

Don’t moan so aggressively about something that has no effect on your life whatsoever!

I appreciate your posts (I really do), because they’re usually very informative, but what justification do you have for this assertion? Has Cotto stated that he’s scared of Lemieux or is that simply your gut instinct? Can you cite some evidence?

For the record, I’m not mocking you, but when I hear casual fight fans claim that fighter A is terrified or ducking fighter B, then it’s usually based guesswork or simply adhering to the misconceptions of the Lemming-like masses…

So I’m genuinely hoping that you have something other than “the bout wasn’t made, therefore he’s a duck”?

So what’s it to be?

HBO is wasting their tiny boxing budget on the fight like that. How is that not having effect on boxing fans?

If it’s a PPV and the Puerto Ricans tune in to watch one of their nations greatest fighters compete for the final time, then it’ll likely result in a profit-making venture for HBO.

If you don’t like the bout, then don’t pay for it. Ignore it and pretend it didn’t (or won’t) happen.

Is it a fight that I’m personally eager to watch? No, but Miguel Cotto is a veteran that is far past-his-prime and he wants his career to end on a high note… And I feel that he’s earned the right for the final bout of his career to be against a very beatable opponent.

You have to assume that HBO wouldn’t sanction the fight if it was going to be a loss-making event.

Let’s see what the TV audience figures are and then judge accordingly.

I don't have a proof, and by no means did I say he was ducking Lemiex. He doesn't need to fight him. Maybe I'm just pissed that Cotto will go out with a final fight vs. Sadam Ali and not someone else, like Lemieux. We know Lemieux wanted it, he made that date his next fight date. They're both with GBP as well.. Who knows, maybe they DID negotiate. Lemieux will probably tell us about it in an interview in the near future.

I'm not overly-enamoured about the potential prospect of Sadam Ali being Miguel Cotto's final opponent, but he's earned the right to face whoever he wants for his farewell bout.

And I think it's only appropriate that he tries to go out on an almost guaranteed high-note against a very beatable opponent.

I think he deserves that even if I probably won't be even slightly tempted to watch the bout.

They've got extra budget now that Top Rank has taken his fighters to ESPN

Didn't Ali get KO'd by the light hitting Jessie Vargas? He is also a welterweight. Whatever....not watching. I hope Ali wins.

They could've arranged Lemieux vs Jacobs instead of the donation to Cotto.

That wouldn't be competetive. Ali has a better chance against cotto than lemieux. David would have been a punching bag.
