You realize that "regular" WBA titles are paper ones good only for wiping one's butt, right ?

This fight is about the same level as Braehmer's defenses of his LHW "title" and better than previous defenses by Shumenov.

Both of them are slightly better than most of recent opponents of Wilder.

Indeed, as WBA 'regular title' fights go, this isn't too bad.

We knew almost a year ago that Ustinov would be facing either Haye or Charr for one of the WBA’s titles, but now that the Oquendo-Briggs bout was cancelled, it’s been elevated from an interim to the “regular” belt.

I kind of hoped that this bout would not happen. I guess most people would likely ignore this fight... and so they should.

They need people to fight for the vacant title so they can fight to unify it with the super title and the interim title, at which point they'll be vacant so people will need to fight for it again.

That's just what I was thinking

If not Oquendo vs Ustinov or Oquendo vs Charr then we're right back to square one with Fres

It's a shame that the WBA didn't already have Hammer ranked above Charr and Oquendo. Hammer vs Ustinov for the toilet paper title would've been somewhat respectable.

So now Briggs is gonna wait around for another 8 months for Ustinov and Charr to get it all sorted out?

He'll have been inactive for like 4 or 5 years by the time he gets his paper title shot and loses

I'd think he could've made more money just being an active fighter in the meantime instead of waiting around for this Cracker Jack box title, but ah well.

At this point it's like Oquendo's White Whale.
