Hearn: Wilder, Parker Do Not Warrant a 50-50 Split With Joshua!
Matchroom Sports promoter Eddie Hearn, who handles IBF, IBO, WBA heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (19-0, 19 KOs), sees no reason to do unification with WBC champion Deontay Wilder (38-0, 37 KOs) in the United States - when the fight is so much bigger in the UK.
Wilder would like to have Joshua come over to the United States to fight him - but Hearn strongly believes the contest belongs on the UK.
"I look at that fight and I think actually the place to build the Wilder fight is here [in the UK]. I mean neither guy is a huge star in America yet - so we’ll have to see - but that fight is huge in Britain, so everything tells me that maybe Britain is the place for that fight," Hearn told BS.com's Declan Taylor.
One of the issues in making a fight with Wilder, or WBO champion Joseph Parker, is the amount of money that both fighters will demand.
Hearn feels strongly neither of the other two champions are in a position to demand anything close to a 50-50 split of the money with Joshua.
All fighters have egos, and both Wilder and Parker feel that they are superstars in their respective countries.
And if they stand firm on receiving something close to a 50-50 financial split, Hearn does not see those fights coming off.
“That’s one of the problems, because you cannot possibly think that a fighter with the commercial value - like particularly Joseph Parker.... and Deontay Wilder - should warrant anywhere near a 50% split in that pot. And it’s not being disrespectful - it’s just fact," Hearn said.
“But they will [demand that, because] in their head [they will] think - ‘I’m a champion, my belt is on the line, that is the split.’ If it is [their position], of course, the fights will never happen. But [Wilder and Parker are still] gonna get absolutely giant paydays from fighting Josh on whatever they’re offered. They’ve got to be treated with respect - it’s not just a case of ‘there’s a couple million, take the fight.’
"But they’ve also got to understand the size of Anthony Joshua. But, also we understand that we want the belts, the public wants to see those fights - so we have to try to make them, [and] sometimes a split [is needed] that AJ doesn’t like to get those fights. But we’ll see. He’s in a great position.”

Definitely not. 80/20 would triple wilders best payday.

How much money did Parker make in his last fight? How much did Wilder make in his last fight? How much did AJ make in his last fight?
50/50, are you joking?
If I was AJ and he said something like that I would say, let's give all of it to charity for kids with debilitating birth defect!
I wonder what Wilder his reaction will be.

No.
Anthony Joshua is the biggest star in the division by a wide margin.

Neither anywhere near 50/50

...as to the split, surely there've been precedents and there has to be a rule of thumb..

Who voted Wilder?
Is it because he has been champion a long time? I think.. IF Wilder had better defences of his WBC title, then he would see a potential 50/50.. or 60/40 at worst.. but he hasn't.. and he isn't - household name in the USA. I think he's more of a name in the UK than he is Stateside.. he been too busy hiding in Alabama.

how much bigger money wise is aj-wilder/parker than aj vs run of mill decent contender? where does the extra money come from? more tv stations picking up? bigger arena?
aj seems so big that at least in uk (i assume where most money comes from) all the casuals already watch him. he obviously deserves far bigger cut. in
recent hws only wladimir could compete for drawing power and hes now retired.

You have to think Wilder would be bigger just because of their knock out records and highlight reels for the promotion. Parker brings NZ PPV.jamamb wrote:how much bigger money wise is aj-wilder/parker than aj vs run of mill decent contender? where does the extra money come from? more tv stations picking up? bigger arena?

Well sorry, but I'm genuinly surprised both Wilder, as well as Parker don't accept a 50/50 deal against AJ. I think any other heavyweight boxer out there would accept such a deal.Badhusker wrote:Hearn is already forecasting why the fight can't be made. His opponents are already pricing themselves out.

50/50 is what Parker and Wilder want. Reported numbers are 80-20 and 70-30 in favor of Joshua.asdfjkl wrote:Well sorry, but I'm genuinly surprised both Wilder, as well as Parker don't accept a 50/50 deal against AJ. I wouldn't sell out for those numbers either if I was them.

You would turn down a career high pay day because it didn't fit your wants? That's really really REALLY stupid. Splits and shares have always been based on what you bring to the table, and neither Parker nor Wilder will be bringing half to the table. Turning down a career high payday (and all the future higher paydays if you win) is ridiculous and simply a way to avoid the fight. It's terrible business and sportsmanship.tiny_acres wrote:50/50 is what Parker and Wilder want. Oh oke, yea 80/20 would be a very very fair deal and I would still accept it, but then at least I can understand it in some way. I still think Wilder should accept a 3 or 4% payday. Parker about 15-20%.punchoutsb wrote:You would turn down a career high pay day because it didn't fit your wants? That's really really REALLY stupid. 80/20 or 70/30 is career money.tiny_acres wrote:50/50 is what Parker and Wilder want. And when they lose they have no belt and no bargaining chip for more paydays.punchoutsb wrote:You would turn down a career high pay day because it didn't fit your wants? Like it or not it's a business and Wilder will not accept less than 60-40.

I'd agree if Wilder thought for a second he might lose. If he wins the rematch is on his terms.
Re: Hearn: Wilder, Parker Do Not Warrant a 50-50 Split With Joshua!
AJ is the bigger draw no one can doubt that ... BUT how long will that last, if he does'nt get to fight the , other percieved big names , such has Wilder , theres not much about in the heavyweight scene and a Wilder fight is the biggest fight out there 60-40 in the UK would be fair , In the USA is out of the question the money is in the UK ,
Re: Hearn: Wilder, Parker Do Not Warrant a 50-50 Split With Joshua!
It's stupid to even think about yet, because no offer has been made. Hearn is setting up the stupid public so he can say Joshua wanted the fight but they priced them selves out. He can add that to his demand that Wilder must fight Whyte first also. Two reasons the fight can't happen....just in case he needs them.
When he makes an offer, Imo Wilder or Parker should accept anything at or above 25%.

A loss to AJ wouldn't disqualify Parker or Wilder from continuing to fight the abysmal level of competition they are currently facing. You're basically walking away from the most money you could ever hope to make with no other option to make close to that money. If you think this is a good business choice then please have someone else handle your finances for you.tiny_acres wrote:And when they lose they have no belt and no bargaining chip for more paydays.punchoutsb wrote:You would turn down a career high pay day because it didn't fit your wants?
