I think they fought.
No a bad scrap by all accounts
The Marvelous Cobra: Fights that Changed the Course of History
Re: The Marvelous Cobra: Fights that Changed the Course of History
Didn't change History any... The title remained just where it was, in the hands of Marvin Hagler...
The memory I have is a totally wasted Hearns weakly running or rubbery legs like an wobbly tinker toy ready to collapse... and Hagler running after him... I knew when Tommy turned his back after taking a tremendous right the fight was just a few seconds from being over...
Trainers tell you "When a guy turns his back after you hit him and runs, he's done.. Don't be polite or sportsmanlike waiting for him to turn back around to face you.. The man is surrendering.. Run straight at him and smash him dead." ... Hagler literally flew at Tommy and blew him away.

Marvelous had to take some tremendous shots to win that fight. That night, he earned that nickname.Kalan wrote: ↑07 Nov 2017, 22:13 Didn't change History any... The title remained just where it was, in the hands of Marvin Hagler...

Barkley took everything Tommy could throw as well...and iced the sucker -- The skinny kid didn't pack near as big of a wallop at Middleweight.

Too bad the fight didn't happen a few years earlier. I'll never forget putting on HBO and it was a who concert. I love the who, but it was a huge letdown. Hearns would have had a better chance boxing and that was before Marvin had a 'superfight'. If he had the same nerves he showed against Duran he would have been in for a long night. The rematch that Leonard stole would have been great too.

If they had fought in 1982, Hearns may have gotten it worse. Hagler was in his prime at that time, and I think that what made Hearns have second thoughts.
