Joseph Parker vs. Lucas Browne in Serious Talks

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Former WBA heavyweight champion Lucas Browne has agreed to fight WBO title holder Joseph Parker in potentially the biggest trans-Tasman boxing fight in memory.

Now he's just waiting for the Kiwi's signature for a fight mooted for around March of next year. The bout could happen in Parker's home city of Auckland, or in Australia, with Melbourne probably favoured ahead of Sydney.

"I've heard that his trainer, his promoter, his matchmaker, have all said 'yes, no problem', it's actually Parker himself that's holding it up," Browne told AAP on Tuesday.

Browne's promoter Matt Clark was equally adamant it was up to Parker to seal the proposed deal.

"They've offered us a deal, we've agreed, we're ready to go, so if the fight doesn't happen it' rests solely on Joseph Parker," Clark told AAP.

Despite the Browne camp's assertions, it's believed the 25-year-old New Zealander is prepared to take the fight.

However, Browne isn't ranked in the WBO top 15 and may have to take a fight to get ranked.

"If needs be and he (Browne) has to go and fight for some sort of WBO regional title we'll look at doing that," Clark said, when asked about getting a ranking for his fighter.

Browne, who has fought just once in the last 20 months, would welcome a warmup fight "to get the cobwebs out again" before a match against Parker.

Yeh, ofcourse, it's a fight catered for AUS/NZ..

Probably get it on Sky Sports here, as Hearn is looking for a potential AJ/Parker fight.

I'm one of 'em. I've been looking forward to this one for what seems like an age. Parker by UD for me too.

Browne is a lemon

A lot of talk and petty whinging like a woman, barely any fighting, when he is fighting it's never up to much

Thought he was alright when he was first starting out but these days he does my brain in

Parker decision

I actually think this good be an entertaining scrap. Neither are particularly skilled, but both are game. They could go at it like Whyte and Chisora.

Like Whyte and Chisora is go with the younger fresher guy. Parker decision written all over it

Once again fair better as anyone Wilder ever fought, but still one of the worst world title defences Parker ever had.

Good analogy  I never thought of it like that. Both styles should make a good fight. Browne dies need a warm up first, as has been said, and Parker needs to stay busy. I recon they should both go to Japan and take on the top two Japanese HW's for a double bill payday warm up fight.

I think Parker should work the body.. he can wear Browne down by mid rounds and go for the stoppage. I think Browne will struggle to land much clean. And maybe not even throw that many to begin with.

I don't mind this fight. Should be more action packed than the last 2 HW title fights we've had. NZ vs Australia aspect adds a bit of interest. Parker should have too much, but Browne can bang and is willing to have a tear up.

Parker and his team had a press conference here in NZ today and the plan seems to be that they want Joshua but not for 80/20 purse split and Browne is being talked to as a back up if talks with Hearn fall through.
Personally I think 70/30 is fair for Parker to fight AJ. If Parker didn't have his belt it would be OK to ask 20 or 25%
Parker isnt known for turning down fights so far, if the deal was a little fairer I'm pretty sure he would sign up. Otherwise he can make 1.7-2 million fighting the likes of Browne or go to Japan or China and make a decent earn against easier opponents.

I think you're confusing your Japanese and Chinese heavyweights: Japan has Fujimoto who is shite but still head and shoulders above any other Japanese heavyweight. The others IIRC are just novices. China has the two Zhangs and Taishan Dong although he has not fought for some time.

Would be a good fight and i can see it happening in NZ around March.
It will be competitive and Browne is never out of a fight with his power. He wont run like Fury did so at least there will be a fight.
Parker by decision is my pick.

Good matchup and good for boxing fans in New Zealand and Australia. I think Parker will win by decision whether he deserves it or not.

Would be a good fight.

I just have the feeling that the money might not be there to make it possible. Browne is dangerous opponent for anyone.

Parker by UD is the most likely outcome but Browne has the power to stop anyone.

I listened to the radio on the way to work today and a representative of Parker’s conceded that Joshua was the draw so would take the majority, but Parker’s team would be unwilling to drop too far below 50%

Yeah they are dreaming about 50%
70/30 is fair in my opinion.

What a joke fight... Insane when you look at all the fighters who are better than the elderly Browne -- who will be 39 in April.

I hate the cherry-picking and won't watch it. Parker will knock this old fat man cold in 7 or 8 rounds after giving him a bad beating.

I'd love to see Parker rematch Andy Ruiz... He certainly deserves it.
