Dmitry Bivol’s HBO Debut Draws Peak Viewership of 356,000

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Dmitry Bivol’s debut on premium cable drew respectable ratings considering his level of opposition and the time it aired live in the United States.

Bivol’s first-round knockout victory over Trent Broadhurst on Saturday peaked at 356,000 viewers and drew an average audience of 341,000 for HBO, according to ratings released Tuesday by Nielsen Media Research. The one-bout broadcast from Monte Carlo, Monaco, began at 5:45 p.m. ET/2:45 p.m. PT in the United States.

HBO’s same-day replay of the Bivol-Broadhurst bout drew a peak audience of 305,000 and an average viewership of 289,000 on Saturday night.

Interestingly, live U.S. television ratings for the comparatively unknown Bivol’s victory were similar to ratings the previous Saturday afternoon for British superstar Anthony Joshua’s most recent heavyweight title defense.

Showtime’s live airing of Joshua’s 10th-round stoppage of Cameroon’s Carlos Takam peaked at 361,000 viewers October 28. An average of 334,000 viewers watched Joshua defeat Takam

For a debut that really wasn't marketed I think that's actually a solid number for Bivol. I think HBO would be wise to continue to pick up Bivol fights and give him a bigger showing. They're already in talks with Barrera..

That was a flash venue wasn't it, most of the ringsiders were dressed up and looking very fancy with a touch of OOH LA LA in Monte Carlo an all . :D
I was going to say the only thing missing ringside was roulette, but that was covered by the Russian Roulette bullet that Bivol had in his right hand that Broadhurst couldn't dodge inside the ropes.
Although early Broadhurst clipped Bivol with a right the Russian looked razor sharp and very eager, looking forward to seeing him again.
Sullivan Barrera's name was mentioned as a potential future opponent, let's see what happens.

Not bad for an afternoon slot with a guy like Bivol who is basically unknown in the US.

Yea I’d like to go there one day. Have a gamble, maybe some poker and watch a fight. That would be a dream.

I am wondering what viewership numbers Golovkin had against Ishida in Monaco.

The Ishida fight wasn't shown on HBO, his fight with Murray took place in Monte Carlo and on HBO.. that did 862,000 viewers.

By the time he fought Murray, Golovkin was well known. What about the Adama fight?

Also not pictured is the fight with Gabriel Rosado which was an undercard fight to Mikey Garcia vs Orlando Salido. That card did 1.3 million viewers.
