Old boxer

Post by tlrdbyrnfn »

I am trying to find information on my father who was a boxer, The details are very sketchy but I will give you what I have, any information or how to find something out about him would be greatly appreciated.

He passed away over 24 years ago, and never talked to us about his boxing days, but family say

He joined the army in 1936 age:18
He received Social security card in New Mexico; I know he was stationed in Panama and was on a small island somewhere during the war. This is when he started boxing. He fought under two names one spanish and one american, do not know either of these names for sure. He was Born in Pa, Won I think 3 golden gloves, and from what I understand fought @ Madison Square Garden ( which he lost that fight). He left the Army, and then returned to the Army a few years later. Where he got in a fight and hit a Sargeant and was sentenced to 5 years in San Quentin Prison.

Whether he boxed after this I do not know.

His name was Charles Walker, but one of the names I am told he fought under might have been Johnnie Walker(sp unsure).

It would be in between 1936 and 1950 .

Thank You!
