Harry Wills and his "Waterfast" diet

check out this article where Harry Wills use to fast one month out of the year only drinking water.
( reportedly he lost 50 to 65 pounds at a time doing it).

going on water diets for that long is a totally foolish practice... You harm your organs... Wills died fairly young from complications due to fasting.

I once went 4 days without any food so doctors could take an MRI with the clearest views possible... That's more than enough time to flush every speck of food and waste out of your body... Go longer than that and your body will start eating itself---preserving your fat as the last thing it devours 3 or 4 weeks into your fast.. You literally start the process of dying if you go longer than that without food -- and the idea that you're purging toxins is nonsense. You're knocking years off your life because you're ignoring your bodies cries for food. That's going to inflict a fair amount of damage. Your body will start leeching minerals and other substances it needs for maintenance from your organs and bones.

It's interesting that Wills chose February as his month to fast, but if his schedule "precluded" that he took the next month.. Why not just fast for 28 days??? Fasting 29 days every leap year or 30 or 31 days if he missed his fast in February is just as stupid.. According to the article Wills would lose up to 60 pounds -- presumably to 160...going from Heavyweight to Middleweight in a month.. Believe me, this is not good. You literally have to teach your body how to eat and absorb food again by going very slowly off your fast.

I think your body might adapt to that because you're eating every other day... And you'd be damned slender.

But 3 healthy meals a day is probably the best practice... That's done in most of the world, and I think Americans snack too much.

Many years ago I met an ex ships captain who only drank water and ate nothing every alternate day. He claimed to have picked up the habit from some Polynesian folks, or some such place. In any event the guy had to prove his date of birth before most of the company would accept he was 78 years old, as he looked and carried himself like a guy much younger.

Intermittent fasting is getting popular in the fitness industry. I read a lot of Charles Poloquin and he’s been on about the benefits of it for a while.

yeah, sounded a bit dangerous about reading about it.
Haven't people died just drinking a lot of water ?
I think that author should have at least gotten some 21st Century Medical advice from an actual M.D
if only as a disclaimer at the bottom.people are so impressionable these days particularly.

I read somwhere that he acctually died as a result of appencites
that his diabetes complicated it .

And complications from his yearly fasting regimen most likely caused or complicated those ailments... You know how weak your digestive system has to be when you starve your body to the point that you can barely freakin' eat without throwing it all up???
