Bad for boxing

Post by GalenBadBoyBrown »

It's amazing how I have had 88 professional fights and taking 3 checks for fights only 3 and all of them have been bad commissions need to pass a law we're everyone gets paid cash for fighting you can write a check but you sign and they give you cash and the lady that did this one was a fighter at one time

Shady ass commissions. Their definitely should be strict laws in place to make sure nobody ever gets away with not paying the fighters.

I've heard of a few stories like this and this is one aspect of the sport I dislike.

I hope you get your money.

I took my checks directly to THEIR bank the first thing.. Then I immediately bought a cashier's check at their bank.. That's as good as cash.

You don't want to be carrying that much cash around.. Don't take the check to your bank because it takes them too long to get the money and it might bounce by that time.. Be the first boxer on the card to get your money out of their bank -- when there likely will still be some.

You should do that right after you get paid and before you take a piss... Or first thing Monday morning if you get the check on the weekend.

The most unsavory aspect of the sport I've read about was in the book Journeyman which basically all but admitted that a great deal of Lower Tier club fights in the U.K. are essentially fixed.

"Give him the 'ol run around" they'll tell the fighters...I'm talking about the guys with records like 8 wins and 96 losses. (in other words. Go some rounds, but don't try to win).

Also apparently the A-side fighter has to pay his opponent to fight him, and all he's buying himself is more exposure. Often times in those fights the winning fighter isn't even getting paid. He's simply trying to boost his career...it actually COSTS him money to get the win and the exposure sometimes.

It really lowers the sport to have sh*t working like that.

And it proved that yes when you see guys with records like that. Single digit wins, Double Digit losses. Chances are they're just a paid loser that's not even giving a legitimate effort in the ring.

There'd be no club shows left if that happened. This is standard practice on club shows apparently. Especially in the U.K. maybe in the States and elsewhere too though I'm not sure.

I know in Russia and former Soviet countries will have "Pro" fights just in a gym somewhere with only a handful of observers.

I understand that I have been part of a few no contest fights that give a amateur show a few pro fights so they can see what it is like as pro. It just sucks to go and fight expecting to get a little extra money to help support my family and to get zero money and $400 in return check fees. That I have to pay until the commission makes it right with me. Hopefully they do soon because Christmas is right around the corner and I have 3 kids and a wife, so we shall see.

These commissions don't only seem to be breaking the law but they're being penny wise and pound foolish. They're killing their own business by greed and stupidity.
