David Price: No Reason I Can't Bounce Back Like Charr, Win Title

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Olympic bronze medal winner David Price is still hoping to fight for, and win, a world title.

Price (21-4, 18 KOs) will return to action on Saturday night in Brentwood, when he faces Kamil Sokolowski.

Price has gone through a string of trainers and he is now working with Derry Mathews at George Vaughan's gym in Liverpool.

There are many in the industry that have called on Price, still only 34 years old, to retire.

But the Liverpool boxer was inspired a few days ago, after watching Manuel Charr topple Russian giant Alexander Ustinov for the vacant WBA "regular" title.

Charr, like Price, has suffered numerous setbacks - like vicious knockout defeats, injuries, hip replacements and he was even shot.

"I watched that fight and [Manuel] Charr's done well. He's come back from the brink really and if anything that's proof that you can come back.

He's had a couple of bad defeats, bad knockout losses, and he's just kept persevering like I am, and he's got his reward in the end, so there is no reason why couldn't do something similar. It's a fight I would love to have the opportunity to take," Price told Sky Sports.

One possible fight in the near future for Price, is a domestic clash with David Allen. The fight was talked about before, and Price was not interested at the time - but he appears to be interested now.

"If I had won my last fight, I would have been in a position to fight for a world title, so justifiably I wasn't interested in fighting Dave Allen at that stage," Price said.

"Now I'm back down at that level, then yeah it's a fight that interests me. Any fight on the British scene is a fight that interests me."

Sure there is.

Charr apparently has friends in high places with deep pockets. That's the only explanation for him getting chance after chance. Price apparently doesn't have friends that are willing to pay the Price (pun intended) to get him those same opportunities.

Also...I don't think anybody has ever had a softer title opponent than a 3 years inactive Fres Oquendo. Oquendo wouldn't even be among the Top 50 Heavyweights in the world even if he were active.

He can do it, although he will need to improve in a big way and not get stressed out when his opponent goes on the offensive etc. If he still wants it, good luck to him. Quitting‘s for losers.

Yeah I say good luck to him, still got it in him to get in there hasn't he...

But when he does get in there the same things keep happening and let him down and he gets beat

Can't knock a man for trying, but I think he's best off leaving it imo

Wants to get this win and then be tysons comeback opponent doesnt he

And because he has the punch, he wont get near a belt unless he works his way into contention. And we all know he cant do that without getting beaten. He cant even beat Hammer.

Charr’s only been stopped by really good fighters though, as opposed to Pricey, who’s been stopped by everyone he’s faced above domestic level unfortunately.

Good luck to him but I doubt he really believes it. Be interesting to see him get a few decent wins quickly and maybe get the Fury fight.

He won't win a proper title. Maybe a secondary version or a daft interim thing but even that's a long shot. Fringe guys like Charr and Ustinov would probably take him just now. Im not being funny but I wouldn't be surprised if Shannon Briggs chinned him either!

if you cant last 2 rounds with teper or 7 with hammer then realistically even wba sub belts are prob out of your reach.hed have to get a really weak opponent then land a big fight ending shot thats eluded him at any decent level. even as bad as charr is hed prob club price in.

Does anyone even view the title that Charr won as a genuine world title? It's a joke man! Fair play to the guy and best of luck to him but he's not a proper world champion.

I don't even view the titles that Joseph Parker and Deontay Wilder have to be genuine World Titles. There's only ONE Champion. Not 2. Not 3. Not 4. One.

I don't know how far this latest comeback will go but maybe Derry Mathews can get something out of him that no one else could. Mathews I think achieved as much as he could as a fighter so perhaps he can get Price to realise his maximum potential...

Its hard not to dream, especially when your still young enough to act on it, "youth is wasted on the young" and "you're a long time dead" are apt statements for Price here, you cant live it twice so scratch your itch now

If he got to Parker before AJ does, then there was a chance. But the easy belt will be gone in 4 months. No chance of one of the big four belts from then on
Maybe a slight possibility of a vacated belt if AJ does not keep up his mandatories. But with AJ's earning potential, I'm sure the various governing bodies will cut him some slack.
I like Price, but the only bouncing back I see him doing is when he hits the canvas.

That's not a bad idea from Brigg's point of view. He seems to have gone quiet but he is more than capable of chinning Price then talking his way into being Fury's comeback opponent.
Fury's camp should be happy with that, Brigg will look the part (as long as drug testing isn't mandatory) and will be a great salesman but won't be a real threat if Tyson comes back at anything more than 30%.

Can you imagine that fight if it went past four rounds though! Two of em would look like they were swinging through treacle!

One of the most outlandish belts in history. Ustinov is beyond terrible. Oquendo will beat charr.

I'm not going to get too demonstrative about a guy I watched holyfield beat a decade ago, but I expect him to win comfortably.

If he does, it will probably be one of the biggest comebacks in the history of boxing ever.
