Chocolatito: GGG Trains Like a Savage, I'd Like To Use Sanchez

Gonzalez is being lined up for a potential ring return on a date in April.

He feels very confident of getting back in the mix and winning a world title once again.

"People have motivated me, mainly the people who love me. I am motivated to be champion again. I'll be ready [if my return comes in April], I know what I'm going to do. In the end I want to make that fight [in April]," Gonzalez tells German Garcia.

Gonzalez reflected on his defeats to Sor Rungivisai and now feels refreshed to continue forward in his career.
He would love to work with veteran trainer Abel Sanchez, who is best known for his work with middleweight king Gennady Golovkin.

"In the second knockdown [of the rematch] I knew what had happened, but I could not feel my legs. I knew mentally what was going on, but my legs... I could not feel them," Gonzalez said.

"The first fight was different, I did not know what to expect and in the second fight I did not want the same thing to happen with the cuts [from head clashes], I wanted to surprise him and in the end I could not. I wanted to press after the fifth and sixth rounds, but in the end one shot landed and everybody knows the final result.

"The knockout hurts a lot, but I'm not afraid to continue. In the end I would love [to work with] Abel Sanchez and learn good things and try new workouts. Golovkin trains like a savage and I want that, that a coach can teach me a new training method that I get to like. To be a coach is not to teach you skill but to know what you are failing at. In my 47 fights I have also made mistakes. I want a coach to tell me my mistakes."

I think a link up might be good. Abel is a good trainer. But then I also think, he needs to become a bit defensive.

I still think Gonzalez is a top fighter and not past it just yet.

He needs to get back to 112, even with Naoya leaving the division there is too many fighters naturally bigger and stronger... though I suggests he now avoids Higa (not that I think Higa is better but he's a VERY similar fighter just without the wear and tear) at 112

Maybe he is too stubborn to change his style but he needs to outbox opponents now. He is too small and shopworn to win battles of attrition at the top level.

He needs to take a leaf out of Adamek's book and I don't just mean retire immediately although...

At LHW Adamek was big and walked now and smashed up his opponents, at CW he had to box a little more as he no longer had a size advantage and HW he had to go full boxer.
Even though Choc's weight category change is much smaller he should adapt the same tactics.

Roman should move back down. He is just too small for this weight. Sanchez with his Mexican style is a really bad idea for Roman at this weight. He needs to change his style in the opposite direction -- start moving more.

His performances have deteriorated markedly as he's climbed in weight. Since he's not considering dropping down, more defeats are undoubtedly on the horizon.

That KO defeat he suffered to Sor Rungvisai was simply devastating.

If Chocolatito carries on, he'll probably follow the path of Roy Jones post-Tarver.

I think that win over Cuadras (which I think was at best a draw) took too much toll on Roman, and Sor Rungvisai just collected his wins over a small partially shot fighter.

You're acting like Sor Rungvisai was a bum. He was, by anyone sane who follows the smaller divisions, a very dangerous fighter. He likely would've stopped Cuadras if that fight was allowed to go on.

I think Chocolatito just needs to move back down. He's not big enough for the division.
