Ulrich V barney EBU Light Heavy Title

Post by knockout »

anyone know anything about this.
secondsout.com mention it in there report of friday nights action

16 October apparently.

Gonna be hard night for him... Barney is pretty small at light heavy, Ulrich hits hard and Barneys style will hardly get him any favours with the judges (unless he pretends he is Sven Ottke)

I don't think Barney will be adding himself to the list of upset kings somehow.

Hey got to root for the lad though.

To think, Barney gave up a British title to challenge for the WBU. Boxing News are seriously considering not even mentioning these joke world titles in their copy. Just mention them as 12-rounders.
Any thoughts on that?

I think BN should always report what title, no matter how insignificant, is up for grabs.

I agree but a prefix of "the insignificant" WBU bauble would be nice!!!!

Yes i totally agree with that stance...Ulrich may stop Barney once he catches him and unloads, i rate Ulrich he is a smooth boxer and that loss to Glen Johnson shows what a good fighter Johnson is as opposed to what a bad fighter Ulrich is i think. He was behind against Branco though before he pulled out a big shot so perhaps there is a case for him being outboxed. Barney though will not get a decision in Germany fighting the way he does, he will run and Ulrich will come forward without doing a whole lot but it's made for an Ulrich UD.

I think as reporters you have to namecheck the title belt. However, it would be good if the BN used their own or perhaps IBO or Boxrec rankings to provide a more accurate context of the significance of a bout?

They used boxrec ratings a little last year and then it disapppeared again probably under outside pressure.

I wish him luck, he is going to need it. Glad to see he is fighting for a decent title - if he wins the light heavyweight devision will be really interesting domestically. With three fighters on the fringes of world class (European title win automatically gives you that in my opinion).
