Billy Joe Saunders Could Retire By Age 30

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Saunders, 28-years-old, now admits that he could very well be done with the sport by age 30.

"I've always said when I'm 30 I'll be done," Saunders said. "I've got children, I've been very sensible with my money — put it into property — and I've always said that when I'm 30 I'll be done... I've done everything in boxing now.

However, he also states that a huge money offer would persuade him to continue a little longer.

"Don't get me wrong," Saunders counters. "If I'm 30 and the unified champion and there's a fight there worth £10million, I'm going to say: 'All right, let's do it'

"I've been very, very lucky, I've probably earned more through property than I have through boxing. Where I come from, being a young kid, 11 years old, I've always had to buy and sell something. Even when I got older, 16, 17, I was buying and selling cars, little cars, but it was what I could afford...

"There's a hell of a lot of money to be made in property. I rent them out, I have flipped them, I've got lucky with planning permission on some, building on some. I've fallen lucky a couple of times."

Saunders also plans to take it very easy with the New Year's celebrations.

"I never go anywhere (on New Year's Eve). You never hear of me in nightclubs, I'm not a drinker, I have never touched drugs. I'll have the odd drink but if I ever do go out to a nightclub I'm back for half 12," Saunders said.

"I just love food, I really do... my fight was always the scales, I used to think my talent would get me through the rest. My talent won me the world title."

I think he could earn much more now than he ever has. It does look like he has spent his money wisely and invested in property as he has mentioned.

Is he over-hyping himself a little? I don't know.

He'll be 30 in years time. He'll likely take maybe 2-3 fights next year?

Thoughts on this?

He's going to struggle because he has no fans. He's not a likeable guy and he's hard to promote, hence going abroad for Lemieux. It was a great win but unless it leads to GGG/Canelo it does little for him domestically.

They both sold out the ExCel. Let's not forget Fury vs. Chisora II took place on this card too.

Jr just sold out the 20k+ Manchester arena against Groves and BJS fought in a leisure centre for a world title fight.

And groves did the same arena four years ago whilst Chris was in shopping centres.... Eubank in Sheffield did about 1500. People were literally selling outside for a fiver! Both need a dance partner to sell.

A lot say things like that. Depending on who he fights he could be looking at some huge money fights when he’s 30.

He got very good money for a straightforward job last time.

Come on Mick, he could be looking at silly money if wins his next couple.

He earned $1 million vs. Lemieux. Could increase due to Canadian ppv sales.

His biggest fights now are in the US. He should remain there. HBO have already showcased him against a decent HBO draw. All the big fighters in MW division are on HBO.

Eubank was in leisure centres as a kid who had just started. Saunders was in a leisure centre defending his world title.

He clearly has no fans due to him being a cock. As said, might as well stay in America now.

Bill turned pro on box office, Eubank fought a guy from my local gym five fights in who my 14 year old nephew stood on his head.... And Chris still couldn't do anything with him! The Scottish show was clearly about blowing away cobwebs. Billy knows how bad he was that night. He rectified now, though.

I think he’ll have a couple more fights next year at 160, possibly Jacobs and then Canelo / GGG.

After that I can see him moving up to 168 for a couple of fights.

Fighters usually say they want to be done by 30 when they’re in their twenties, they hardly ever do it though. I’m excited for BJS now, I’ve always rated him and the move to Sheffield is getting the best out of him. He’s set for a big 2018 now and, as a fan, that has to be good news

BJS and Eubank jnr have also fought the same opposition and Eubank performed better by stopping them.

I do hope we get the Eubank rematch, whether it be 160 or 168.

I was thinking about that the other day.

If DeGale decides to call it a day (which I can’t see) or even fails to carry on at the top level, could we see BJS in with the winner of the WBSS in 2019?

He did yes, however Billy was the one with the amateur experience and it ended in a disputable split decision didn't it ?
