Outright or just in general?

Because Hatton won a vacant belt against Jon Thaxton but never won the belt for keeps(2 defenses is it you have to make?)

Just in General.

There are much more names to be mentioned if it outright.

John Conteh never won a Lonsdale Belt, Barry McGuigan never won a Lonsdale Belt (and selfishly held on to the British title as world champion), Duke McKenzie never won a Belt...

Yes that was the path all prospects used to follow,i used to enjoy all the domestic clashes for the 3 titles, that was when there was 2 world titles available, nowadays it seems it's easier to get a world title fight than a European title.

Funny now that the commonwealth seems below the British if anything.

Yep, even though it's more open to champions from different countries

They are both at about the level the English title should be.

The BBBofC is being run into the ground.

Duke won the title twice, fly and feather. He did not keep a belt, but that was not what is being discussed here as was clarified further up ^^

Yup, and when better boxers pick them up, it's never to defend them

It's a shame that fighters these days bypass the British, Commonwealth and, in some respects, the EBU, in favour of an International, Intercontinental or some other spurious belt in order to get a ranking from one of the sanctioning bodies.

Being British champion means something, being the IBF International champion means nothing. I'm sure it means something to the fighter but in the wider context of boxing it means nothing.

I agree - I wonder if any of the boxers named look back when they have retired and wish they had boxed for the British title rather than strategically going for some inter-continental type title?
