Horn vs Crawford - resheduled to June 9th

Post by Like a Boss »

Jeff Horn's camp have agreed to the key terms for a fight against Terence Crawford.

An official announcement could come as early as next week for the April 21 clash between the unbeaten pair – at the T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas.

Horn’s trainer Glenn Rushton says he is satisfied with the renegotiated purse and that all there was left to do was sign the contracts.

“As far as we’re concerned, it’s pretty much a deal,” Rushton said.

“We have certainly agreed on all the key terms and from our side, it’s a go. Now Bob Arum’s got to tidy up some loose ends.

“We have total confidence in Bob and Top Rank that he’ll get this all locked up and we’ll have a contract in our hands by the end of next week.”

“We’ve always said we want the big fights and they don’t come any bigger than this one".

This is going to be hard for Horn but not impossible. I am glad they took the fight. I expect him to give a good account of himself and end up with plenty of options going forward. Hard to believe one bookie has him at nine to one.

Horn beat Pacquaio who was rated the No 1 Welterweight in the world and has beaten super welterweights.
Why can't he beat a fighter who so far has not fought a welterweight?

Wouldn't write Horn off, but the odds are going to be against him.

Crawford is obviously better than a current-age Pacman, so if he can pull this off it'll be a huge upset and even better for his career.

Hope he can pull off the improbable again.

Mike Alvarado has been mentioned as his opponent. Wonder if Jeff has a rematch clause?

Good question. Surely it wouldn't be just a money split. Wouldn't it be in Arum's interests for Horns and Duco's take to be largely based on Aus and NZ pay per view returns. From Arum's perspective that would ensure Duco promoted the fight strongly in Australia and could allow for a very decent pay day for Horn without taking much off the gate or US market.

I wonder how many views the Horn v Corcoran fight achieved. The Crawford fight would have to have the potential to be many times larger than that fight. Horn now has a profile in Aus that transcends just the usual boxing faithful so the fight should be very promotable.

Ben Damon says Main Event will likely go over to the US and cover Horn-Crawford. It would spare us having to listen to the type of garbage served up on the commentary for Horn-Pacquiao.

Unbeaten Aussie southpaw Liam Paro will act as Jeff Horn's main sparring partner for upcoming bout against Terrence Crawford.

Paro, who is 12-0 with 8 KOs, also helped Horn prepare for his fight with Manny Pacquiao.

Horn-Crawford was scheduled to be in New York on April 14.

But indications are the bout will move to Las Vegas.

He seems like a loyal guy, so not surprised to see him stick with whats worked for him in the past. Heading over a few weeks out probably wouldn't hurt his chances though.

Would've been a long time since Manny's appeared on an undercard. Does lead you to think he will be matched up with the winner.

I wonder where that leaves Roach given his statements after the Horn loss.

Because Crawford is naturally bigger than Pacquaio and not nearly 40?

The April 14 welterweight championship fight between Terence Crawford and Jeff Horn was postponed today due to injury.

Bob Arum told ESPN Crawford suffered an injury to his right hand while sparring at his training camp in Colorado Springs.

“He hurt his hand hitting a guy on top of the head gear,” said Arum. “We’ve gotten him treated by the best hand doctors. He had an MRI, and there is no ligament tear, thank God. The doctor prescribed two weeks of rest, and then he should be ready to go. We’ll put the fight sometime in late May or early June, but that depends on how Terence’s hand is feeling.”

Brian McIntyre, Crawford’s manager and trainer, accompanied him to a hand specialist in Los Angeles.

“The hand is in the process of healing and one thing with Terence is he loves to train so he’s been training and running and doing what he can do without using the hand,” said McIntyre. “This is a little road bump. We’re gonna stay out here in Colorado Springs and once we get word from the doctor we’ll be ready to go. We’ll see how Terence feels and we’ll talk to Top Rank about a new date, but we’re definitely going to stay in camp and keep training. The guy he was sparring with has a hard head. When we do come back we’ll come back stronger and more determined.”
