There's a big possibility of me going into wrestling. I've been a fan of wrestling as long as I've been a fan of boxing - since the days of Hulk Hogan. James Toney and David Tua are the two risky guys. They are probably the top non-champions out there. But I'm a warrior - like Rocky Marciano - so I would take anyone on.

But if I win the world title and he gets himself into the top 10 I'd like to have a voluntary defence against him because it would be good for the British fans.
Congratulations on a great victory against Mike Tyson. It was a great fight and you showed a true lion heart to hold on when hurt and return with a stunning knockout! What does it feel like knowing you have knocked out one of the all-time greats in heavyweight boxing?

Thanks - it's still a fantastic feeling. I've been watching the guy since I was 12 or 13. He is an all-time great, and for me to knock him out - the feeling is unbelievable. I'm still up after the fight. I'm still buzzing six weeks later. I really don't believe, even if I won the world title, I'd get that same buzz as from knocking out Mike Tyson. I feel like I'm the guv'nor now! I definitely feel different.
What did you think of Amir Khan’s performance at the Olympics? How good do you think he will become? And do you think he should stay amateur until after the next Olympics?

I think he was fantastic. He's only 17 and he went out there like he was the best fighter in the world. It was fantastic to get a silver medal. He will be a great professional - the next Naseem Hamed, I think. He's definitely world champion material. It depends how he develops, but everything seems to be there. There are pros and cons to turning professional. If he turns pro with the wrong promoter, he could get thrown in a bit too early and he could screw up from that. Then again, if he gets with the right promoter he's going to earn more money than he has ever seen in his life. If he stays amateur too long he could mess his style up - not be able to change to the professional style.
What are your ambitions in boxing? And what will you do when you retire?

My ambition has always been to become world champion. To be honest, I haven't thought about what happens when I retire. I just want to earn so much money from this sport that when I retire I can do what I want to do, sit back and relax, see different countries, have lots of holidays!
Who are your all-time favourite boxers? Did you ever model your style on anyone?

My all-time favourites are Willie Pepp, Rocky Marciano, Jersey Joe Walcott and Muhammad Ali. I watched hours and hours of tapes of Jersey Joe Walcott. I tried to box like him - looking away and punching. He was a fantastic fighter. And from Rocky Marciano I take his heart - a true warrior.

How much of the aggression and angry exchanges with opponents before fights are for real - and how much is it hyped?

When it happens with me it's 99 per-cent real because there's a lot of tension between the fighters. It's nearly always real as boxers are concentrating so hard on the fight.
It looked, with your superb display against Tyson, that you weren’t scared of him. Would you have been scared 10 years ago?

Congratulations for restoring pride in British heavyweight boxing. How do you assess the overall state of British boxing?

I think it's good - it's promising. Ricky Hatton, Joe Calzaghe - world-class fighters, probably the best in their weight. There's Johnny Nelson as well. And you've got the up-and-coming fighters - David Haye, who's going to be one of the best cruiserweights in the world, and Roman Greenberg has superb potential at heavyweight. So it's definitely looking good.
How do you think you would have got on if Tyson could actually have moved properly and hit back past the first round?

I don't believe there was anything wrong with Mike Tyson. That was basically an excuse. I mean, he walked out of the ring and he wasn't limping. He was throwing shots until he was on his knees. There was nothing wrong with him. If he wants a re-match I'm up for it.
Do you think it was a disgrace that we only had one boxer at the Olympics? Whose fault was it?

Yes, I think it was bad we only had one boxer at the Olympics. But many of our guys are turning professional - there's basically no money in the amateur game. The only way we produce some good amateurs is if we give them some money to stay on. The money should come from the lottery.

Many congrats on a career-defining moment. My question is about your seemingly-changed fighting style in that explosive fourth round with Iron Mike Tyson. I think that once you opened up and came through with constant attacking, countering, great angles and accurate flowing punches, Tyson was in instant trouble. Will this style be more suitable in fights against other potentially-dangerous opponents, in comparison with the more cautious style you used against Michael Sprott. If so, I don’t think Sprott or almost any other heavyweight would have an answer. Thanks.

Yes, this is a style I'm going to adopt more often. I'm going to be more aggressive and more vicious in my fights. I'm not going to be boxing on my back-foot any more. I was boxing like that due to my nerves. I wasn't showing my true style of boxing. This is now the true Danny Williams - this is how I'm going to box all the time. I'm glad everyone's excited about this style. It's never been a lack of confidence - I just put too much pressure on myself. I stressed myself out too much. But my confidence has increased after beating Tyson.
What happened the other night with you and Alex Shane when you got into a brawl with him at a wrestling promotion? What is your opinion of him as a man and as a wrestler?

Tyson is far form a nobody. Every time Tyson fights he commands big money because he sells out 20,000-seat arenas and he brings in pay-per-view. Tyson's still a great fighter, even though he's not at his best.

Audley Harrison by far. He's a much better technical fighter than Matty Skelton. But sometimes ability doesn't win fights. Skelton has tremendous heart and a great workrate - and that could win him the fight if they met.
Do you get recognised in the street now?

Yes - big time. When I'm walking in the street people are running up to me and squeezing me, giving me big hugs. Everyone wants me to sign autographs and come to their house. I'm recognised all the time now - thanks to Mike Tyson. I'm honoured by it, privileged. I see myself as the guy from Brixton - I don't see anything that's changed about me.
Who is the hardest puncher you have faced?

Mike Tyson by far. But I think I built Tyson's punching power up so much that he'd probably have to be King Kong to hit the way I thought he was going to! He hit much less hard than I thought he would. I'd say the second hardest was the British heavyweight Mark Potter. He was a tremendous puncher.
What made you sign up with allegedly as your promoter? Do you think it's right to have the same manager and promoter?

Is it true you might not be fighting Oleg Maskaev next month? Is it right you will take on Vitali Klitschko for his WBC title in December?

I still expect to have a fight against someone next month before taking on Klitschko. Klitschko is the best in the division and it will be a hard fight, but I'm ready for it - it's been my dream for a long time. allegedly has been negotiating for it. He's delivered his part - now it's up to me to do the same.
After your Tyson victory, how does it feel to suddenly be the centre of attention in the boxing world?

It feels fantastic. I feel on the top of the world. It's given me such a big buzz. You can see the respect from other fighters - that means more to me than anything. I saw Ricky Hatton the other day and his face lit up when he saw me. He gave me a hug, and I thought getting respect from someone like him is unbelievable.

Most of it is all rather humdrum stuff, but i found a few points interesting.
How he plans to become more involved in pro wrestling and is negotiating to do something with the wwe next month. I notice he's also looking for a fight next month before fighting Kiltchko i hope he remembers where his priorities lie!!
His comparison between Marciano and himself as regards 'heart' did make me smile. if i was to make a list of fighters that Williams reminded me of, then marciano wouldnt be on it im afraid!
Still the usual talk of fighting Harrison at some point. I like how he's laid dopwn the gaunlets, that should he successfully make a couple of defences, he'd like a voluntary against him but only if Harrison gets himself into the top ten ratings. We'll not hold our breathe eh?
