2018 is Kell Brook's Final Year!
Kell Brook has targeted a December showdown with Amir Khan after climbing back from ‘rock-bottom’.
Brook has not boxed since he lost his IBF world title to Erroll Spence at his beloved Bramall Lane on May 27.
The Sheffield ace says the defeat convinced him to hang up his gloves and he was already planning a life after boxing.
But, after months of soul searching, Brook has drawn up a three-fight plan to ensure he ends his career on a high.
He has lost his last two fights, but insists his defeat at the hands of middleweight Gennady Golovkin in September 2016 was not too hard to swallow.
However, losing to Spence sent him on a downward spiral that he almost did not recover from.
“That one felt like my first defeat,” he said.
“We all knew the score with the Golovkin fight, it wasn’t normal. He was the man at middleweight, nobody would fight him and I jumped up two divisions to fight him.
“But losing to Spence, my mandatory at welterweight, it done me. It absolutely done me.
“I’ve been in a dark place basically ever since. I’ve only just jumped over the fence and now I’m very positive and happy about my life again.
“I’m just so happy I had my family round me, they were strong and got me through it.
“It was very tough, very tough for me. I really hit rock bottom.”
Brook will make his return on March 3 at Sheffield’s FlyDSA Arena against Sergey Rabchenko at his new weight of 154lbs.
After that, the 31-year-old is hoping to box again in the summer before finally securing a showdown with long-time verbal sparring partner Khan.
Brook added: “I’m back in my groove and I am going to show it against Rabchenko. There are no excuses and I feel like I’ve still got plenty left to give.
“I have got one more year, that will be three fights.
“After Rabchenko I want to be out in July or August and then I want Khan in December.
“I’d agree it feels more possible than it has for a long time just because he’s now with Matchroom.
“Even Khan has said that it will happen so that makes me think ‘yep, it will’.”

With that mindset I can see a loss in his next bout

Or a loss in his August fight, or likely if he fights Khan. Looks like he wants to just win his next two bouts JUST to set up a big money fight and retire.
His ONLY big money fight is Khan. He has no one else.
In a recent interview he actually said Spence isn't that good and he would beat him in a rematch. He said he lost the fight because of the eye injury and it wasn't his night. He also said because he was ill during the training camp. I doubt any version of Brook beats Spence.

Lets be honest,Brook has never proved to that good anyway, one decent win in his whole career and that was questionable.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑20 Jan 2018, 09:53Or a loss in his August fight, or likely if he fights Khan. I don't like premature retirement talk but maybe he's damaged goods after the two eye injuries. You can't be too careful when it comes to your pork pies fam

Re: 2018 is Kell Brook's Final Year!
I'm with you on that.
He won, what some thought was a questionable win. Fair enough. I think, had he fought and beat Diego Chavez, which was scheduled, you could say he made a good defence of his IBF title. Instead, his first three defences were Gavin, Dan and Bizier (2 of which were mando's).. Now let's say he retires at the end of the year. Let's say in 5 years time, we have a young kid looking up Brook's BoxRec. He's going to see Brook do well in Domestic competition, win a world title against a credit champion, then defend the title against 3 'easy' opponents. Take a brave challenge at Middleweight, but then when he fought his first tough fight at welterweight (Spence), he lost/quit. That's what our future generation is going to see. I don't think 2018 will matter no matter how many fights he has or wins.
Re: 2018 is Kell Brook's Final Year!
porter couldnt land a clean punch all night. brook had him timed and landed more and better.porter just missed and then fell in then tried to hold and rabbit punch
clear win for brook, you can criticize a lot of his career but lets be fair about that fight ya

I heard him say that. A year is a long time in boxing though.

I feel Kell gets a lot of stick on here he could of swerved Spence but he choose to fight him and was winning the fight imo untill the eye injury Spence good fighter and feel Kell deserves the khan fight to go out on a high

That's like saying Haye was beating Bellow before his Achilles f*cked up. But he lost the fight. If that's the case, why didn't Brook finish the fight off when he was supposedly winning? A fight is over 12 rounds. His eye didn't get injured accidently. It got injured because Spence landed some clean shots on his face.Steven_b96 wrote: ↑20 Jan 2018, 11:07 I feel Kell gets a lot of stick on here he could of swerved Spence but he choose to fight him and was winning the fight imo untill the eye injury Spence good fighter and feel Kell deserves the khan fight to go out on a high
I do agree Brook gets stick on here. He gets stick on a lot of forums tbh.

Ambition gone now it seems. Will be interesting to see how he reacts if things get tough in his next fight.

If he was done Domanic Ingle would tell him to walk away..... there is no way he will mess up the chance of fighting Khan. He will be Heather and stronger at 154..... Good luck to him

Re: 2018 is Kell Brook's Final Year!
I though Brook was competitive in the Spence fight. Certainly wasn't one sided until the injury. The one thing that stood out was that he started very well but the pressure from Spence seemed to tire Brook out causing him to get caught more.
My point is that IF Brook struggled to drop back to 147 then that could be the reason he gassed and started to get picked apart, then he could be great at 154. That's the real question for me. If he can last the distance easier at 154 then his timing and skills are more than capable of holding out for 2 or 3 more years at least.
The next fight will be very revealing on how Brooks career pans out. I hope it goes the distance so we can see if Brook has the stamina after stepping up in weight.

Mate, I am pretty sure you cannot just copy and paste news articles into forums but should instead provide links. Someone legal could confirm but that story is copyrighted to the Daily Star and all your other reposts are normally from copyrighted websites. If I am right, seems odd that mods do not pick up on it considering we cannot write allegedly due to fear of legalsRuthless-RKO wrote: ↑20 Jan 2018, 09:17 Kell Brook has targeted a December showdown with Amir Khan after climbing back from ‘rock-bottom’.

Wait and see what happens with Rabchenco. If he can show durability and stamina at the new weight, then all good. I don't think his boxing skills have ever been in question, and the eye injurys will heal stronger.
He is 31, its not that old.

I think he might already be finished. It's a shame.

what is the evidence that bones heal stronger for any sustained period? the best i could find on that was that SOMETIMES for a VERY SHORT period in recovery, they MAY be strongerKiwiRider wrote: ↑20 Jan 2018, 15:10Yep, the voice of reason there Jack.Old Jack J wrote: ↑20 Jan 2018, 14:03 I though Brook was competitive in the Spence fight. Exactly,if that was the case then it would be advisable for boxers to get their eye sockets smashed in so it never happens again in the future
Re: 2018 is Kell Brook's Final Year!
His reason for taking a knee in the Spence fight was due to an eye injury, so he says. Thats now heeled and he is going to fight again soon, so why is he not targeting a rematch with Spence?

In a catchweight fight is what he said. Spence won't be making a voluntary against Brook anyway....... too tough a fight for him last timeRuthless-RKO wrote: ↑21 Jan 2018, 13:18Exactly!
