Jorge Linares vs Mercito Gesta

Linares defends his WBA Lightweight title against Gesta this weekend on B/Nation, seems like a straightforward defence for Linares, I haven't seen Gesta in a while, his only loss was a wide points defeat in a world title fight against Miguel Vazquez a few year back, not much in the way of wins though and he has a draw with former Khan victim Carlos Molina

I was one of the minority who thought Linares beat Campbell clearly last time out, was surprised he had to settle for SD, Linares for all his plaudits is still a vulnerable fighter, he's well skilled but Mitchell and Crolla are fairly conventional fighters and Campbell had already had flaws exposed by Mendy, I still think theres a few guys who can beat Linares, he's quick, slick but can be tagged and hurt

Gesta has power but I doubt he'll be the guy to end Linares reign, reckon he'll go the distance though

Linares should beat Gesta fairly comfortably. Garcia will chin him though if they meet.

Gesta was strong and looked sharp in the earlier rounds but he wasn't in Linares class who boxed superb, had him winning 119-109, gave Gesta the 12th, there were times when Gesta did land but Linares always made sure he came back with something better, his footwork was great, defence was superb but it was the handspeed that Gesta really struggled with and the skills of Linares, he's so sharp and technically brilliant he was always able to get off first and get the last word in, jabs, right hand leads and some lovely left uppercut counters

Bit of a mismatch as expected really but still good to see Linares do his thang
