Joseph Parker vs Anthony Joshua - 31st March

Post by Like a Boss »

Joseph Parker vs Anthony Joshua is confirmed for 31st March and tickets are selling like hotcakes.

Many tickets though seem to have been snapped up by on-sellers who, although they contribute to making the demand for the event look amazing by buying tickets quickly and in large groups, will ultimately sell them at inflated prices to the fans.

Good to hear..... one thing you cant fault the poms on is they certainly get behind their fighters. Not sure id want to be up in the bleachers for this one though

Great to see a fight of this calibre getting done at the right time, instead of milking it out for a few more years. Good luck Parker.

Parker reportedly doing a lot of roadwork. Plainly he needs to be fit enough to be capable of going the distance and hoping he can gas Joshua somewhere along the way.

The New Zealand pay per view price has been set for the Joseph Parker vs Anthony Joshua fight at $49.99.

This is $10 cheaper than the price for Joseph Parker's fight against Andy Ruiz Jr, back in 2016.

Yeah the Ruiz price was criminal. They learned from it, and brought the price back to fiddy bucks- which is still heaps. AJ Wlad was only $30 I think

Officials have been appointed for Parker-Joshua :

Italian Giuseppe Quartarone has been confirmed as the referee and the judges are from New Zealand, the UK, and the USA.

"We're very happy with the officials that have been appointed," Kevin Barry has told Sky Sports.

JP has shown in the past that he can be out-boxed and out-witted. AJ won't do either of these to JP. JP has a bangin' right hand, and I think we potentially see one of the great upsets here.

problem for joe is that hes not really a puncher either. look at his fights vs anyone decent. he doesnt hurt them at all.

i just dont see how he realistically pulls it out

of course theres always very small small chances of a cut or injury to aj, or a lottery punch, but very unlikely imo it ends like that

Joshua and Hearn continue to be drawn into jousts with Wilder. When Joshua in particular should be using all his concentration on Parker.

so is wilder trying to block aj vs himself by getting aj to lose focus on parker and then have parker score an upset???

but seriously, how much time of of ajs day is taken up by wilder? its very possible to have prepared well and have a focus on one opponent while still talking about the other. plus im sure a lot of it is just aj answering questions that were posed to him

There's a good reason trainers endeavor to keep their fighter's mind solely focused on their next opponent. Particularly when their next fight is only a matter of a week and a half away.

joshua may well think of parker for hours and hours each day. simply answering questions about other ppl doesnt mean he lacks focus. it would probably be mentally draining if anything to only think about one person and refuse to talk about anyone else.

Getting ahead of yourself talking about future opponents when you should be fully focused on the opponent you are just about to fight has been attributed to bringing fighters unstuck in the past. That's why most trainers and managers discourage it so strongly.

depends

you can spend hours each day studying one opponent, going over the game plan, imaging the fight, etc. while still thinking about others. and its other ppl who bring it up and ask the questions to aj, simply giving an asnwer hardly suggests a lack of focus. and it can literally take like a minute or less to give an answer about wilder that gets turned into an entire article

as i said, think non stop about 1 thing can actually be overdoing it. and its unneccasry. it does not take all of ones mental energy, 12+ hours a day for months, to study joe parker, have a good game plan, and go over things properly.

if you do that you may well be mentally drained by fight night

Should Joshua lose to Parker, watch the ridicule he cops for "having got ahead of himself talking about fighting Wilder when he should have been concentrating on Parker" and it won't be restricted to boxing forums either.

how do people know what josh thinks about each hour on the day?

even if he answers questions about wilder an hour a day that leaves many many many more hours to think about parker

what exactly does being focused on parker constitute? like how many hours and for what specifically?

by now aj couldve watched all his fights several times, worked out plan a and b for months in the gym,and be thinking every day and night about executing his plan

but no, he answers a few questions about wilder so he must not be focused at all LOL

Repeatedly offering opinions about a possible future opponent only a week or two before fighting someone else is referred to in boxing as "getting ahead of yourself."

History shows it isn't a great idea and that's why it is discouraged.

you can answer questions about other fighters and yet still be focused on your current opponent, theres nothing inconsistent about the 2

as i asked, how long each day does aj need to think about parker to be focused, and what exactly would that entail?

by now he could've easily studied all joes fights, gone over the gameplans throughly for months in the gym, and each night be reviewing the plan. its still possible to do all that and answer some questions about deontay wilder. ajs whole day isnt just what you see on youtube or in the article you read

"Not getting ahead of yourself" is plainly a concept entirely foreign to you. But in boxing circles it is one of the golden rules.

You haven't been following this sport long. That much is obvious.

Yet another rant from Joshua on Wilder :

“Parker is a better all-rounder,” Joshua told reporters at his training camp. “He has a good left hook, right hand, he wings a right to the body, he likes a left hook to the body. I haven’t seen Wilder throw that many body shots".

“Wilder relies on the right hand. There has never been one champion in the heavyweight division that relied solely on power and one punch … Parker has an all-round game. That is what makes it a dangerous fight.”

“When Wilder won, I just thought he’s supposed to do that,” Joshua said, adding, “… by my 40th fight, no one should be giving me problems. By my 40th fight, I should be a seasoned professional.”

Another rant from Joshua about Wilder. On a positive note, at least some of it is in comparison to his next opponent. Though the 40 fight comparison Joshua is making to Wilder is hardly productive so close to the Parker fight.
