Hopkins-DLH Weigh In

Just come back from the weigh in, it was quite an event in itself, lots of screaming and shouting (mostly from the Mexicans) but pretty good all the same. DLH didn't do a lot apart from some fist waiving and Hopkins who looked in great shape was playing the villain with his executioner routine. There were plenty of famous faces knocking around like Duran, Toney, Tyson etc but my bloody digital camera batteries went dead while i was taking a photo of De La Hoya's dad who decided to walk down the aisle like a celebrity

I stopped until the end when the "little" fellas were getting weighed in, Jantuah looked in good shape but Rubio was over and went away to slim down. Antonio Tarver was doing some TV work and had a mic on all the time he was on the stage.

I stopped quite late and as i was standing by a doorway i turned and saw Tyson walking past ushered by his minders, i shouted Mike and he smiled before a screaming women saw him and then everyone just jumped on him and started taking pictures. Miguel Cotto walked past as well and i shook his hand (it did have a mobile phone in it though!) and also Raul Marquez's from HBO (the guy who always cuts easily) and watched some other undercard guys sign shirts and stuff.

I hadn't taken a pen and paper with me and my digital camera was dead, as i got outside the MGM i saw hiding up a corner by a fire escape with a minder and what looked like his dad, Marco Antonio Barrera! I had to get his autograph so i raced over to a group of black women and begged for a pen and scrap paper, after i convinced her i wasnt going to steal it she gave it to me and i snook behind a tree and over to Barrera.

He never smiled or said anything but signed my paper, his "dad" was pointing at my t-shirt and chanting ingerland! Anyway got the autograph and shook his hand...got another lad to sign the paper as well who i recognised getting weighed in...not sure of his name though

Anyway just thought i'd share it with you all....it's fun here

De La Hoya weighed a trim and ready 155lbs. He believe he will win on points, he can win. Hopkins was a comfortable 156.
I remember some people doubting that Oscar would go through this fight. Why would anyone doubt him, look at his record.
If this was a welterweight – both natural welters – would Hopkins be the overwhelming favourite?

De La Hoya looks in mean shape! I cannot wait for this tonight!

Hopkins was never a "Big" Middleweight, he never struggled to make the weight, not like other fighters in other weights who near drop to get inside the limit. He has got under the 160 no problems and has often came in below it.

De La Hoya is at a great weight, perfect for this fight. Im putting this fight down to who can bring the best game plan and whos skills will be the best on the night rather than a blown up welterweight in with a natural Middleweight.

I cannot see this fight being the one sided contest that many are reporting it to be.

Steve, you lucky guy being there!! Enjoy every minute of this event.

I am smelling an upset. I felt a long time ago Oscar could win this fight, Im going with that tonight. Speed for me will be the key, he's got the tools. When Oscar was clearly beat the only time in his career it was speed that killed him. The first Mosley fight, Shane was super fast, also the turning point in that fight was when Mosley turned southpaw. Up to that point Oscar was winning the fight.

Hopkins is a differant fighter, a rough house fighter, who does not dazzle you with speed or switch hitting tatics. He hits you everywhere, he's dangerous and is also a great fighter and is also a winner. If De La Hoya can use his speed, age and boxing brain against Hopkins. this fight can be his. If he gets involved in long trades or is caught on the ropes, Hopkins will hurt him. He must make Hopkins look and feel old tonight.

Ive had my 1pm sleep, Im ready to stay up now

I can also see many points on how Hopkins will win, and why he is expected too. But, Im sticking to De La Hoya and I believe he can do it.

Ive been make a fool in big fights before, I hope this is not another one!!

who you covering this one for Steve, I'm assuming you must have a press pass if you were at the weigh in?

I wish i was there for this one, I was there for Pacquaio v marquez, but this is a way bigger fight for sure. I could have got a press pass, but too skint for the flight and shit, fornicating gutted.

I cannot wait to see the Cotto fight either, I hear he was his best ever. I wonder will they have Ricky Hatton comment on the fight in the studio, would be interesting.

Oscar looks READY...mind you, so does Hopkins

Still, deep down, I reckon Hop thinks this will be a cakewalk - bearing in the mind Oscar's last fight, which must've left him thinking this guy has NO CHANCE.

Will he really rush at DLH like he's been saying? I doubt it. I still think Oscar's gonna have a major surprise for him, and pull off the upset tonight.

By the way, I have 100 on the draw in this fight at 12/1...

I now only bet on draws in fights like these. Much higher rate of success given the odds.

I look forward to collecting my 1300 quid.

At the two bookies I saw, its was 20-1 on the draw.....

Bloody hell Steve I must have been standing right beside you?!?! The weigh-in was great though: to the left Barrera, in the centre Cotto, Tyson and Duran and a portly Mike McCallum hovering around the press area before he went to see his fighter. Hopkins was WAY the more relaxed fighter at the weigh-in, it was awesome when he threw his shirt to Duran and started mouthing "I'm bad" to all the folk booing him while doing that X sign. I took over 600 pictures over two days! I will try and post some tommorrow.
