WBSS Final: George Groves vs. Callum Smith - July 14, 2018

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

The fight is set...

I doubt the date will change. Groves seems good to go.

Who wins the Muhammad Ali Trophy at Super Middlweight?

For the first time in a long time, I agree with Bellew- Smith wins it.
Bigger man, vicious body puncher, good skills, lower mileage, thinker, great team.
Much as I like George, I think he will struggle.

Man, this series has been a bit of a bust. I don't even think that the winner will be the best SMW in the world.

they will at least come out of it with a win that tops pretty much anything the other smws have done for a while. groves especially if he can beat eubank and smith , that is way way better than something like porky and ronald gavril, or hart and that tiny poor ghanian zurdo just beat up

and beating groves would be much better then something like zurdo beating abraham

Who's the world's best best super-middleweight if it cannot be Groves or Smith?

lol watch him say someone like benavidez or zurdo

i mean if your gonna knock the tournament look at the records of the others guys. who would have recent wins as good as eubank + smith, or in smiths case beating groves

omg porky medina and gavril are amazing! omg jesse harts awesome! omg the uzcategui-dirrell 2 winner is tremendous!

Making a fool out of yourself like always, I see. It's also cute that you follow me around like a puppy because of all the butthurt you have from me destroying you on a regular basis.

Do you really think Gilberto Ramirez or Benavidez wouldn't come out of the tournament undefeated? Chudinov, Cox, and Eubank Jr. are average. What's Smith's best win, Erik Skoglund or Rocky Fielding? Really, the tournament hasn't really made much of a dent when the division is this wide open.

Speaking of Uzcategui, he'd at least have a win over the guy that beat Froch (who beat Groves twice). Truax currently has a win over the former #1 SMW, DeGale. Gilberto Ramirez is probably the best fighter at the moment from a H2H perspective. It's too open to really say much for the winner being the clear #1 SMW.

zurdos best win is what, a decision over abraham which was easily accomplished by eubank? and benavidez needed two fights not to get put on his ass vs ronald f@cking gavril, his best opponent along with gatekeeper porky

theyve hardly done anything to show theyd be undefeated in the tournament.

if groves win his eubank and smith combo is far better then what benavidez, zurdo, uzcategui etc have been doing lately. smith is already got a better record then guys like david and uzcategui and if he wins it will blow away what theyve done. the tournament at least gives some guys some very strong wins

btw you want to play that froch beat groves twice game, well uzcategui got dropped on his ass multiple times and couldnt even beat matt korobov

Zurdo's best win is Jesse Hart who would beat Eubank Jr., but nice try with the Abraham thing.

Yeah, you're a horrible judge of talent. You said something retarded like Estrada isn't a top 20 p4p fighter and got laughed at. I would say that Benavidez made the necessary adjustments and exponentially improves fight-to-fight instead of the retarded statement you just made.

You can say Uzcategui couldn't beat Korobov, but it wouldn't matter at all if he beats Dirrell. Such an easy comment to shoot down. You really are a retard.

groves has never lost to anyone asbad as matt korobov and andre is clearly faded. degale, groves victim, dropped his ass and hes fallen since then anyway.

jesse harts another one of your guys whose done nothing really, did have a super tough time and nearly stopped by dashon johnson though

stuff of a clown to knock the tournament and guys picking up multiple top 10 wins when the other smws arent really doing much. if smith beats groves thats one of the biggest smw win in a while, and if groves wins his eubank and smith combo is an excellent year, pooing all over 2x decisions over elvin ayalas son, jesse hart and that crappy ghanan, 1 win over dirrell, etc

yay! david scored his 2nd straight win over a guy who couldnt even beat elvin ayala!
Are you stupid? You obviously didn't watch their fight then. Lots had DeGale beating Groves. Saying that was just plain retarded. You're done. How can I have a credible conversation about boxing when I'm speaking to a fool that doesn't even follow the sport but just lives on BoxRec and reads about records.

I stopped reading right there. You lost all credibility yet again. Not sure why I even respond to your retarded ass anyways.

it wasnt a robbery or poor decision at all son. a close but justifiable score. several ppl had estrada winning tonight if you want to do it like that

degale
smith
eubank

honestly if groves for example wins i think hed have 3 wins better then any of benavidez, harts, uzcateguis, etc. better resume then zurdo too although might already have that.

and smith over groves tops beating porky, gavril, dashon johnson, hart, abraham, etc

the tournaments at least giving us some tangible good wins and not just talk that so and so beats so and so

I think you're over rating his skills a little

He is sound fundamentally but his basic lack of athleticism and fluidity makes him quite lumbering and predictable, mostly due to heavy feet but also showing itself in the lack of movement from his waist; he's very stiff and upright.

So his weaker points match quite badly with Groves's lighter, faster-twitch skill set.

However Smith is clearly a big strong boy, a better version of Gutknecht, and he can certainly give Groves problems if he can walk him down round after round

Given Groves's extra quickness I would say he should take early rounds quite easily here, what happens after depends on whether Groves can hurt him and gain his respect, or if Smith can absorb shots make Groves move a lot, wear his tank down and get him against the ropes; he'll do much more damage to Groves than Eubank did on the ropes.

I can not imagine the way for Smith's victory, for me Groves is a level above him.
Carl Froch , after three months of proper training, would beat all current SMW fighters (I am not trolling, I really think so).

You put forward a concise and compelling case CP :salut:
I struggle to reason why I think Smith will win. But I do.
It's times like this I need to quote lawyer extrodinare, Dennis Denuto from The Castle;
"In summing up, it’s the constitution, it’s Mabo, it’s justice, it’s law, it’s the vibe and aah no that’s it, it’s the vibe. I rest my case."

Has Smith ever been hurt? Has he ever had to fight on the back foot? He has some big questions to answer and whilst I rate him quite well I don't think he is quite good enough to win, he's been matched poorly in preparation for the top level. I expect Groves to have good success with the jab, and look to land the right to the body often in the early rounds, try and make Smith more ragged and lose the difference in size.

Very interesting fight for sure.

I don't recall seeing Smith hurt. Don't recall him being in with a puncher of remotely Groves's power and class. If i had to bet it would be Groves, if Smith wins he's a bit better than I have given him credit for

If it's jabs, they both have a decent one. Groves I think puts more welly on his, Smith has the reach to keep Groves off.
He really is quite a bit bigger...

He's a big lad that's for sure. I'm sure his brother will have warned him of GG power as well. Really good fight. Less hype than eubank but a better watch for the purists.

Indeed, big lad at the weight, not just his height either, he's no string bean taller fighter he's got wide shoulders and a broad back, just one of those thick-framed rangy types.

This would be a huge event in UK. Hopefully Ramirez - Benavidez (Or Ramirez vs Dirrell - Uzcategui winner) fight will happen and winner of that will face winner of WBSS and we will see who is king of super middleweight. I am rooting for George Groves :box: :box: :box:

Callum used his jab, distance control, accuracy, volume and movement to beat Holzken.
I see why Nieky thought with a bit more practice he could beat Smith, after all it's said he took the fight on less than a weeks notice.
Smith didn't look 100% but got himself into the final.
