Brook: Me vs. Khan is Like Mayweather-Pacquiao - But in Britain

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

He said: “Of course there are concerns about it. Like, why did it happen twice? When the first one went the other one is going to become weaker, I’ve been told.

“But my surgeon, who’s called Muhammad Ali, has checked me out and says the bones have healed.

“I’ve had titanium plates in both eyes so it’s mended and I’ve been sparring with heavier guys and not had any problems. It’s only a problem when I go through airports at security.

“I hope the Amir Khan fight gets made. We’ve got the same promoter, Eddie Hearn, now and it’s in the promoter and fighters’ interests to make the fight happen. It’s the biggest fight out there for us, it’s like Mayweather-Pacquiao but in Britain.”

Brook, 31, is feeling the benefits of operating at a new weight division.

He said: “It’s a lot more fun, it’s a lot less worrying especially in the back half of the training camp.

“I know I’m going to make weight now whereas before there was not knowing whether I was going to do it. It’s been nice to have been able to eat more this time and worry less.”

I doubt they will be getting $100m each, but it is a big fight, would have been bigger a few years ago.

More like Mayweather vs Mosley...but in Britain

It's a big fight. It's not the biggest fight. It's not even the biggest fight that could currently take place in Britain.

If he means it's gonna a fairly drab affair, 5 or so years after it should have, he's spot on.

Not bothered about fight not now, they are both past best and the interest has gone for me.
They have done well for themselves but both are overrated and neither had the bottle to do the big fight together when it mattered, which is a waste.

Cmon Brook, I'd say it's more like Ali-Frazier or a dream fight that could never happen, like Sugar Ray Leonard vs Ray Robinson or Ali vs Rocky Balboa

Agreed.

One more defeat for either brook or khan and a fight between the two becomes unsellable

He's right in one way: Manny & Floyd farted about, prevaricated & circled each other, so by the time they fought, the fight wasn't a defining fight in terms of where they were in there careers.

Brook/Khan also should have happened a few years ago & if they fight now, it just seems like a cash-in fight rather than a defining fight.

May Pac was poor because Mayweather controlled it as he did in loads of his fights and coasted to victory without putting himself in any danger. Lets face it, for entertainment Mayweather wasn't a great.

Khan for all his faults makes for pretty entertaining fights. It's still a massive fight.

Brook v Khan is decent but PPV? Not IMO. It's also happening a little too late.

In a world where Khan Salita, Cleverly Bellew II and Harrison Rogan are PPV, Khan Brook is PPV every single day of the week and twice on a Sunday.

We can debate whether it should or shouldn't be, but if it happens, it absolutely 100% will without any doubt whatsoever be a PPV fight.

Those fights mentioned were a while ago. Hearn has learnt since then.. But I agree, there is no doubt this will still be a PPV. Domestically, on paper, it's a huge fight.

Two of them were promoted by FW to be fair.

Ah yes, you're right. Clev-Bellew 1 was also promoted by FW, so technically a rematch was his fault. :yay:

Course it'll be PPV! It's Hearn and Sky. Every good fight shouldn't automatically be PPV. Personally I don't pay for Sky Sports anymore but I used to pay an absolute fortune and got rid of it because it's not value for money. I'll still probably watch Brook Khan but the undercard will determine whether or not I'll be paying for it.
