Saunders would be a good coach and he understands the art of boxing. Good fighter.

Heheh. Some funny little digs from BJS there. I like the impishness of him offering boxing tips to Lemieux and Eubank. The impression of Lemieux throwing a hook was funny as fvck, and worrying accurate if you're Lemieux.

Haha he is good value. Even the comments about the Charlos are funny as fook. Obviously has a boxing brain, funny but accurate assessments of Lemieux and Eubank.

Even though he was taking the piss the resemblance to Lemieux's awful Frankenstein footwork was eery

Saunders may seem cheeky no doubt but he's absolutely right. At least 95% of all boxers have terrible footwork. Appalling situation since we've known how important footwork and movement are since Sugar Ray Robinson was kind enough to demonstrate it for everyone decades ago. Muhammad Ali and Sugar Ray Leonard underlined the principles.

British boxers, especially the heavyweights always seemed terribly static compared to their American counterparts. Frank Bruno was the obvious British robotic boxer (what was Terry Lawless teaching him?), but until the Ingle gym fighters appeared there was little to boast about.

It was the great Joe Calzaghe who took speed and movement to a new high in Britain. You'd think he would have influenced subsequent training styles and methods yet here we are today where its difficult to name any British boxers who have great mobility apart from Saunders himself and Tyson Fury!

There is no boxer alive who cannot learn something from watching Vasyl Lomachenko.
Fighters like Lemieux and Eubank Jr dont have to radically change their styles but even slight adjustments will go a long way.

First and most important job is learning good footwork, got to be done early doors though as its harder to change your boxing habits the older you get.

I actually quite enjoyed that video… and whilst I appreciate he was intentionally being tongue-in-cheek most of the time, some of the points he made were very valid.

On a side note, he’s almost six weeks away from the date of his fight against Martin Murray and he already looks in good shape (in the context of his physical appearance at similar stages for some of his previous bouts, prior to his move to Sheffield).

It appears that Billy Joe’s partnership with his new trainer Dominic Ingle is doing wonders for his fitness and sharpness. :TU:

It's funny, people often think of boxers from yesteryear as crude "toughman", but how many boxers ATM have top class talent, but go beyond their physical gifts and also use solid clever boxing? Pretty much just top P4P guys, and not even all of them

yeah good point about a lot of the old-timers. watch a Joey Giardello fight or highlight clip to see how far a lot of the modern guys are behind with their footwork
