Pacquiao eyes June fight with Matthysse in Malaysia

Post by Enlightened-One »

"Pacquiao eyes June fight with Matthysse in Malaysia"

To paraphrase the content of much of the article (accessible via the above hyperlink) that was partially written in one of the Filipino dialects.

Eight-time world boxing champion and Senator Manny Pacquiao said Wednesday his next fight will be on June 24 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and there’s a “great possibility” that Lucas Matthysse will be the opponent of choice, granting him the opportunity to capture the WBA “regular” world welterweight title.

Thoughts?

If this fight would have happened almost five years ago, immediately after Lucas Matthysse destroyed Lamont Peterson, then the Argentine may have even been favoured by many boxing aficionados to have beaten Manny Pacquiao, with the Filipino having suffered a KO loss around same timeframe by Juan Manuel Marquez.

I believe the Argentine has declined far more than the older Filipino legend, which means I expect Pacquiao to box his way to a comfortable decision victory over Matthysse.

Roach recently said that he tried to contact Pac 5 times by telephone and Manny never returned a call.

Roach could be out. If so, I don't expect Pacquiao to be ready to fight by June.

Is TR on board with this proposed Matthysse fight?

Well, it's better than the Alvarado fight, if it happens...

The Lucas that fought Taylor a couple of fights back looked reasonably decent, and he carries enough power to be somewhat dangerous, even if he's being outboxed.

Whatever anyone's opinion of the official result, Pacquiao looked absolute garbage against Jeff Horn, and we still don't even know if Horn is any good since he's fought nobody since...

Not sure who I'd pick in this one.

Good matchup. More interesting than Alvarado definitely.

Ever since Pacman lost to Mayweather, Arum has been an absolute dick to him. Always negative. Controlling.

Don't know why Pac is still with him. He could have fùcked him off years ago. He made enough money. He didn't need Arum to promote him over the last 8 years.. he could have started his own promotional company and have someone run it for him. Help Philipine fighters come through the ranks etc.

Arum doubts that the fight will happen. He hasn't seen any Malaysian money. Just a lot of talk.

And Golden Boy, which promotes Matthysse, says that there have been talks but nothing very concrete.

Pacquiao Is certainly jumping the gun in announcing a June fight. He must have something up his sleeve.
