Anyone know what Tunde Foster is up to these days? He seemed promising until he ran into John Duplessis.

Yeah, good kid. Remember he was quite a novelty as an Englishman in New York in the late 80's. But the hard New York sparring and two gruelling back-to-back fights with, as you say, John Duplessis, and the heavy-handed John De La Rosa, really slowed him. I seem to remember the New York State State Athletic Commission took away his licence as it was obvious he could no longer hold a shot.
He was a Brian Hughes protege out of Collyhurst as an amateur.

I asked about this guy a while ago after a mate of mine told me that he had seen Foster and Michael Bentt fight as amateurs for Collyhurst at a show in Manchester. How good was he?

He was a terrific fighter was "The Doctor", seemed to peak very early and ran out of steam. Would have been a title holder today, no question. He could do pretty much everything, good hands and feet, good all round fighter.

I never knew he was out of Collyhurst.

This sounds like an interesting story. Was he from Manchester? How did he end up in NYC? Does he still have involvement with Collyhust?

I could stand corrected , but I think it was his dad who packed up and took him to the states, saying he had to train and work with the best to be the best.

He won New York golden gloves or similar straight away , turned pro and the yanks had big raps on him till it all turned pear shaped

He was a slick, fast-handed southpaw with good power. Not sure how he ended up in New York.
He was close to a genuine title shot when he came apart physically.
Brian Hughes would be the man to ask about his current welfare. He's an approachable guy Brian.

He got a fair bit of tv exposure on ESPN. As was stated he was a flashy southpaw with good power. Most of his wins were by stoppage. Unfortunately after his fights with Duplessis and DeLa Rosa his punch resistance abandoned him. I also remember him for his haircuts with designs shaved into it.

Both Foster and Adrian Stone came to America to train. Does anyone know of any Americans who have come to Britain to start there careers?
