Anthony Yarde Declined Opportunity to Fight Artur Beterbiev

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Four months after capturing the vacant IBF World light heavyweight title, Artur Beterbiev is still without an opponent for his first title defense. Beterbiev’s highest ranked contender Marcus Browne chose to go after WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev next.

The next six contenders in the International Boxing Federation’s rankings have reportedly shown no interest in facing Beterbiev. Those fighters are as follows: Anthony Yarde, Juergen Braehmer, and Dominic Boesel.

Braehmer was the more recent after Browne and purse bids were ordered for yesterday (26 March), but he declined..

With none of the contenders rated in the top 8 having accepted the offer to face Beterbiev, the next guy that is being given the call is #9 IBF Meng Fanlong (12-0, 7 KOs). He’s a 2012 Olympia from China with a decent record. Fanlong has wins over Daniel Judah and Brad Austin. Most of the guys Fanlong has beaten are little known fighters with poor records. Fanlong is with Roc Nation. It’ll be interesting to see if he accepts the fight with Beterbiev.

The next available contender is #10 IBF Enrico Koelling. That’s the guy Beterbiev beat to win the vacant IBF title last November in stopping him in the 12th. I doubt they'll order that..

#11 IBF is Karo Murat (32-3-1, 21 KOs), who has won his last 5 fights since being stopped in the 5th round by Sullivan Barrera in December 2015.

The next six, then says they will be listed, then lists three. Some great writer there

Just wanted to focus on the thread title so it's not misleading, hence why I put it in the B&I section.

He's stopped 14 of his 15 opponents. no losses. Has the WBO European belt and another I can't remember.

I doubt Warreñ will work with Hearn to make them big domestic fights that have been talked about. All in all, Yarde hasnt' had the best competition and not really fought many decent domestic level fighters.

What is Yarde waiting for? He's already ranked very highly with the WBO.. Is he waiting for Kovalev to age?

Don't blame him. He's not even fought at British title level yet. Beterbiev would've hammered him.

nonsense , he smashed a guy who had just drawn for the euro one fight before. stop with the crap about guys like that not being up to the burton/buglioni level.
a guy like burton has been knocked out in his 1 fight above area level

I would like to know Warreñ's plans for Yarde.. It's good getting decent rankings and all, but where is he taking him from here?..

I'm not too sold on Beterviev to be honest.. Some don't rate him, some rate him highly. Some might see it as an issue if it's purse bids, they're going to be getting sh!tall for a purse.

I take it you don't rate Beterbiev as highly as some?

so again, if you are working with Yarde today would you advise he go down the Berterbiev route?

i meant nonsense on yarde not having even gotten up to brit level before, even though he smashed a guy whod just drawn for the ebu vs a solid euro fighter

compare that to burton getting kod in his 1 fight above area level, or buglioni drawing with banjo markham/bashed in by chud/115-114 vs ricky summers

I would personally put Yarde in with Dominic Boesel next. EBU Champ and WBO no.5 ranked.

Renold Quinlan is facing Damien Hooper on April 7th, should Quinlan win that I would chase him also...

yes boesel would be good, and a logical step up since he has a win over yardes last opponent, although in a much closer fight

other decent opponents would be the winner of that fight you mention, karo murat, doudou ngumbu, igor mikalkin, felix valera, egor mekhonstev, adam dienes, etc

i dont think eddies lhws are options. and ppl who dont follow lhw boxing much will say the opponents sh!t anyway if they dont know them because there not british.

Stop with what crap? He beat a nearly 40 yo Sjekloca who's was coming off a draw with an ancient and past his best Steiglitz ffs! Decent win for where he is in his career but in no way does that prepare him for a guy like Beterbiev. And he's not fought for a British title. You think Sjekloca offers more of a challenge to Yarde than Johnson or Buglioni? And I'm talking nonsense? Aye cracker pal!

skejoca drew at euro level vs someone no worse then burton and buglioni. burton on the other hand was knocked out in his 1 fight above area level. buglioni has a draw with banjo markham and was barely better then ricky summers, and then got blown out in 1 by his first good brit title opponent

pure idiocy and ignorance to say yarde hasnt even made it up to brit title level when guys like burton and buglioni had the belt

Why not? Take a risk.. If you're ranked high enough. I suppose seen as he's not #1 ranked.. Also, it's the case the fight might not be as financially rewarding. So take that into consideration. I wouldn't advise it. It's all a personal view though. Me as a fan want to see good fights.

He should be forcing his manager and promoter to work with hearn and make the Johnson fight. But we all know that won't happen and he'll keep fighting people noone has really heard off.

Barring a career ending injury, the fight is basically a win win. The experience he would gain would do more to advance his skillset, while the exposure would win him more fans. He's not expected to win so I really don't see the problem. A glossy record isn't as important as a better grasp of the job.

Idiocy? Wind your neck in ya fuckin clown. He's beaten a 40 year old has been who wasn't that good anyway so that means he's qualified to step past British and Euro level to take on someone like Beterbiev? He's not fought for a British title yet. He's not fought any of the top guys from his own country yet so let him do that then we'll see. It's got fukk all to do with being ignorant or daft. The big Serb was brought over to lose. Let's get him in a good competitive domestic fight or two then we'll see where he is.

For what it's worth, I'd have taken Buglioni to boast his way past a 39 yo unmotivated Sjekloca as well so your theory is utter bollux IMO. Just my opinion though

All the bickering is moot anyway as there's no way Frank even lets him near Johnson never mind Beterbiev anytime soon and that's his fuckin promoter!!!
