Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Former WBA junior middleweight champion Austin ‘No Doubt’ Trout (31-4, 17 KOs) is being mentioned as the possible next opponent for WBC 154 lb. champion Jermell Charlo (30-0, 15 KOs) on June 9 when he fights in the co-feature bout on the featherweight contenders between Leo Santa Cruz and Abner Mares rematch on Showtime Boxing at the Staples Center in Los Angles, California.

Trout is going through all the champions. This would be his 3rd world title challenge in 4 fights..

Lost a dec. to Jermall, Retired vs. Hurd and now this..

Poor but if Charlo fights the winner of Hurd v Lara in the autumn then ultimately I'm not bothered.

Jermell has had easy fights since nearly losing to Vanes.. Some had Vanes winning that... Jermall fought a good enough version of Trout, who took Jermall the distance.

This would be Trout's last chance.

You're right, Jermell has to stay busy too, so if he does fight the winner of Lara/Hurd, it will be 154's #1 vs. #2.. I'm okay with that.

Wow, what a horrible fight. I'm thinking Hurd probably took Trout's soul in that fight.

After 10 rounds vs. Hurd.. The scorecards were: 96-94, 97-93, 96-94 in favour of Hurd.. Trout wasn't doing too bad..

Againt Jermall, the scores were 116-112, 115-113, 116-112..

Both were around the scores I had..

To be honest, after Hurd, I think Trout is now in for a KO loss.

No doubt, Trout would probably get stopped.

He's lost 2 of his last 3, the win coming against a journeyman.

Trout's been a pro now about 13 years so he has mileage on him.

It would simply be a routine, stay busy fight for Charlo.

I like Trout and he's always given a good account of himself even in losing, but I think he needs to get a win or two to earn another title fight right now.

Would love to see Trout get another win against a top 15 opponent before he gets another title shot.

ya cotto in 2012, that was good and trouts usually been competitive in defeat, but i agree with others that he should get a good win before being recycled again for a title shot. plus i wouldnt be surprised if hes a lessser fighter now after the last beating

Jermell Charlo to Fight Austin Trout June 9 at Staples Center

The Charlo-Trout fight will be broadcast by Showtime as part of a doubleheader that’ll feature a featherweight championship rematch between Leo Santa Cruz and Abner Mares at Staples Center. A press conference took place Tuesday for the Santa Cruz-Mares rematch, but Trout wasn’t announced as Charlo’s opponent as part of that event.

The 32-year-old Trout (31-4, 17 KOs), a former WBA super welterweight champion from Las Cruces, New Mexico, has lost two of his past three fights. The 27-year-old Hurd (22-0, 15 KOs) became the first fighter to beat Trout by knockout or technical knockout when the veteran southpaw declined to leave his corner for the start of the 11th round October 14 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

I've always like Trout but dont think he deserves a world title shot after losing 2 of his last 3.
